Jens Ritter begins role as CEO Lufthansa Airlines

Jens Ritter has officially started his role as Chief Executive Officer of Lufthansa Airlines. In addition, Jörg Beißel has his first day as the new CFO of Lufthansa Airlines.

The Lufthansa Group, which includes Lufthansa, Austrian, Swiss and Brussels as well as low-cost carrier Eurowings, appointed Jens Ritter as the new CEO of Lufthansa Airlines in December 2021, starting 1 April 2022.

Ritter has more than 21 years’ experience with the Lufthansa Group having started his flying career as an A320 pilot before being appointed to several management positions including Head of Operations Efficiency and Strategy in 2014.

In 2016, Ritter was appointed accountable manager responsible for operations at Austrian Airlines followed by a role as Chief Operating Officer. Since April 2021, he has been a Member of the Executive Board and COO at the low-cost carrier Eurowings.

Jens Ritter will succeed Klaus Froese, who handing over his post after more than six years on the Executive Board of Lufthansa Airlines, most recently as CEO. Going forward, Klaus Froese will fly for Lufthansa as a captain, piloting the new Boeing 787 that arrives next year.

Beißel begins role as CFO Lufthansa Airlines

In addition, Dr. Jörg Beißel will start 1 April as the new CFO of Lufthansa Airlines and executive board member. Dr. Jörg Beißel comes from the position as Executive Vice President Group Controlling and Member of the Group Executive Committee. He will succeed Patrick Staudacher, who chose not to extend his contract and will leave the company at the end of April, according to Lufthansa.
