Job Overview
STS Technical Services is seeking an experienced
NDT Level 3 Technician with expertise in
radiographic and ultrasonic testing for metal and aircraft tubing applications. This position will focus on ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer specifications, managing inspection teams, and overseeing quality assurance. Primary Responsibilities – Radiographic Testing (RT)
- Technical Authority: Serve as the technical authority for radiographic inspection of metal and aircraft tubing, ensuring adherence to industry standards such as ASME B31.1, ASTM standards for aerospace, customer specifications, and company procedures.
- Procedure Development: Develop, review, and approve radiographic inspection procedures tailored for tubing applications, including weld inspections, seam inspection, and detection of discontinuities like porosity, inclusions, and cracks.
- Personnel Qualification: Oversee the qualification and certification of Level I and II RT personnel in accordance with NAS 410 (or other relevant aerospace standards) to ensure competence in tubing welds and component inspections.
- Inspection Planning: Plan and coordinate radiographic inspections, considering access limitations, radiation safety, and specific inspection requirements.
- Interpretation & Evaluation: Expertly interpret radiographic images of tube welds and materials, accurately identifying and evaluating discontinuities based on relevant acceptance criteria such as ASME Section V and aerospace standards.
- Problem Solving: Troubleshoot challenges related to image quality, source placement, and interpretation of complex geometries.
- Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures to ensure consistent and reliable radiographic inspection results.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all radiation safety regulations and industry-specific requirements for tubing inspection.

- Technical Authority: Serve as the technical authority for ultrasonic inspection of metal and aircraft tubing, ensuring compliance with ASME B31.1, ASTM standards for aerospace, customer specifications, and company procedures.
- Procedure Development: Develop, review, and approve ultrasonic inspection procedures for tubing applications, including weld inspection, wall thickness measurement, and detection of flaws such as laminations, inclusions, and cracks.
- Personnel Qualification: Oversee the qualification and certification of Level I and II UT personnel in accordance with NAS 410 and company procedures, ensuring proficiency in ultrasonic inspection of tubing.
- Inspection Planning: Plan and coordinate ultrasonic inspections, selecting appropriate probes, wedges, and scanning patterns for comprehensive coverage.
- Data Acquisition & Analysis: Utilize advanced techniques such as phased array UT to acquire and analyze ultrasonic data, accurately interpreting it to identify and characterize discontinuities.
- Problem Solving: Address challenges related to signal interpretation, probe selection, and coupling optimization in complex geometries.
- Quality Assurance: Develop and implement measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of ultrasonic inspection results, conducting audits and reviewing inspection data for high standards.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry-specific requirements for ultrasonic inspection in both industrial and aerospace sectors.
Required Qualifications
- ASNT Level III Certification in Radiographic Testing (RT) and Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
- Extensive experience in radiographic and ultrasonic inspection of tubing welds and materials, with a focus on industrial and aerospace applications.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant codes and standards for tubing inspection, including ASME B31.1, ASTM standards for aerospace, and NAS 410 requirements.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret radiographic and ultrasonic data (e.g., A-scan, B-scan, C-scan) and evaluate indications in complex tube geometries.
- Excellent communication skills for conveying inspection findings and recommendations to engineers, production teams, and customers.
- Ability to oversee and mentor Level I and II personnel in radiographic and ultrasonic inspection techniques.
