Key Responsibilities
Government Relations
- Actively and regularly engage with relevant government stakeholders and regulatory bodies including the Civil Aviation Authority, Air Traffic Management Bureau and various Airport Authorities on a consistent basis in regards to Cathay Group Airlines scheduling and airline operation policies
- Monitor policy making, legislative and regulatory activities of central government and local governmental entities to ensure Cathay operates effectively within the constraints and maximises opportunities
- Collect and track relevant proposals, laws, regulations and risks to provide regular updates to the Regional General Manager
- Liaise with Head Office Airline Planning for Group airlines regarding scheduling matters on a regular basis
- Liaise with Head Office regarding Group airlines ad-hoc operational issues, which may affect the integrity of operations or the Group’s standing with the various authorities. Develop, manage and maintain strong relationships and communications with designated government organisations to ensure smooth and improved operations and opportunities
Lobbying and brand management
- Maintain and continuously improve the Company position and brand image within local and central government circles to enable stronger lobbying activities for improved business development
- Be the point of contact to represent Head Office International Affairs
- Provide insights into prospects and issues for new cities, market entry including local government meeting arrangements and relationship building
- Help to ensure all regulatory requirements are met for the airlines with a view to making full compliance easier to achieve
- Represent the airlines at key meetings or occasions in an official capacity as required
- Any other reasonable task as requested
Community Engagement
- Implement and periodic review and revision of Chinese Mainland community engagement strategy and guideline.
- Implement and review major Chinese Mainland Community programmes, including but not limited to the flagship programmes CM I Can Fly, HK student Mainland Cultural Exchange, CM World as One, and the Chinese Culture Go Abroad.
- Develop engagement strategy and manage relationships with key charity and non-governmental organisations (NGO) partners in Chinese Mainland.
- Plan and engage other business units and partners to organise community engagement and employee volunteering events.
People Development and Performance Management
- Lead, support and encourage own team to achieve success
- Build a strong and motivated team, ensuring the right organisational structure and the right people are in place to foster positive team spirit and facilitate teamwork
- Supervise and mentor direct reports, encouraging effective collaboration
- Demonstrate leadership and lead by example in accordance with Cathay’s core values
- Develop employees with high potential and identify learning opportunities to ensure appropriate training and development
- Maintain active and ongoing dialogue in relation to employee goals and individual performance
- Actively engage with employees to enhance communication and their understanding of department goals
- Enhance the employee experience in line with the role level and the internal brand promise
E&A
- Emergency and Accident and Crisis Response responsibilities as required
Requirements
Academic Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in communications or a closely related discipline
Knowledge, Skills, Training And Experience
- At least 8 years’ experience in the aviation related industry, with a minimum of 5 years direct experience either in corporate government and public relations, trade associations, or in a government position
- Familiar with government approval procedures with a thorough understanding of Aviation industry related approval procedures
- Demonstrably strong experience in successful relationship building Demonstrably can-do attitude and solutions-oriented approach to problem solving
- Proven ability to deal with sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times
- Proven ability to operate effectively with limited information and able to work independently with little supervision
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and high-level accuracy
- Proactive and self-motivated
- Passionate to make positive impact both for the company and for the community
- The highest possible levels of personal and business integrity
- Strong command of both spoken and written English
- High level of PC literacy in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
