ARK VESSEL DECK OFFICER - 2ND/3RD MATE (MARINE OPERATIONS)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Sail in an Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch (OICNW) capacity on board Falcon Ark recovery vessels Bob and Doug
- Watch standing, deck work, regulatory paperwork, navigation, log keeping, assisting the recovery team with flight hardware, leading deck crew
- Dynamic Positioning Officer (DPO): Successfully operate and control SpaceX drone ships as directed in support of all offshore missions needs while on watch as the DPO in shore-based location at Cape Canaveral. Responsible for DPO setup checks, maintaining an accurate DPO activities logbook, report and log DP anomalies, and ensuring compliance with appropriate programs and standards
- Sustain an environment of safety that integrates DPOs, vessel crews, and recovery specialists
- Be flexible and willing to contribute in different areas of the Marine Operations department
- Always maintain professional demeanor and communication, especially during watch-standing duties
- Adopt and adhere to SpaceX procedures in coordination, collaboration and communication
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 1+ years of experience in a Licensed OICNW and/or DPO role
- Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) 3rd Mate Unlimited
- STCW: II/1 – OICNW OVER 500GT; WITHOUT ARPA OR ECDIS LIMITATIONS; IV/2 GMDSS; VI/1 – BT; VI/2 – PSC VI/3 – ADV FF; VI/4-MED CARE PROVIDER
- Valid USCG STCW Med Cert, US Passport
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- NI or OSVDPA Dynamic Positioning Unlimited Certificate (DP2)
- Successfully complete SpaceX internal certificate based DPO training and qualification
- Active/current US Coast Guard medical certificate/license
- 3+ years of experience as an off-shore OICNW
- 3+ years of experience in an off-shore DPO role
- 3+ years of professional experience working in a role that deals with audits, annual inspections, examinations or licensing-efforts with US Coast Guard (USCG) and/or American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) regulations
- Knowledge of vessel management systems, safety management systems, and regulatory programs such as OPA 90, MARPOL, ABS, etc.
- Willing to work outdoors and in maritime environments, and able to work flexible hours during mission support periods
- Willingness to integrate into dynamic, innovative culture

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
- Position requires a Merchant Mariner credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing in accordance with 46 CFR 16 and 49 CFR 40
- Must be willing to travel to other SpaceX locations as necessary
- 50-hour work week is typical, and may vary depending on site operational needs, flexibility is required

Pay range:
Ark Vessel Deck Officer: $44,000 annual salary + $650.00 per day worked
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience. Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
