About the team you are joining
IATA
Sustainability and Economics’ core objectives are to contribute to airlines’
financial sustainability and advance the industry towards the goal of net-zero
CO2 emissions by 2050. In this capacity, we provide our airline
members with sustainability and economic analyses, tools, and support that
allows them to meet present and future obligations, measure themselves against
the overall industry’s performance, and support their advocacy. Our division
aims to be the leading research body in air transportation, and we have a central
role in helping shape the thinking of the industry.
You will
report to the Regional Head External Affairs and
Sustainability, North Asia and with a dotted line to the Head of
Industry Analysis (S&E-IA), you will conduct research on the global air transport
industry, including quantitative analysis, writing reports and publications,
and delivering oral presentations focused on market developments in the sector.
You will contribute notably to the passenger and cargo market analysis and
forecasting, as well as to our work on airline performance and our geographic
coverage of air transport markets.
What your day would be like
- Your work will center on producing research on passenger and cargo market developments and sharing your findings in publications and presentations.
- You will produce and contribute to monthly passenger, cargo, and airline financial analyses, and to the related forecasts.
- You will also conduct economic research on micro or macro-economic developments affecting air transport globally, regionally, and at the country level.
- You will apply your skills and develop expertise in other areas of the department’s work, including traffic forecasting and macro- and micro-economic analyses of the sector’s market and structural developments.
- Your work will furthermore respond to the needs of internal stakeholders and provide analytical support for those teams, including the Corporate Communications department.
- In support of the division’s commercial objectives, you will assist with consulting projects and contribute to training programs and workshops.
- To analyze relevant national policies and regulations which have substantial impacts on airlines industry, to support regional regulatory advocacy and lobbying activities.
- Your work will focus on the North Asia region working with the Head of Industry Analysis in GVA and collaborating closely with the GVA team. Otherwise, you will report to the Regional Head External Affairs and Sustainability, North Asia in the BJS office.
We would love to hear from you if
- A degree in Economics or any relevant area; a postgraduate degree or PhD would be an advantage.
- At least 5 years of experience in an analytical role as an Economist.
- Advanced research and analytical skills. Report or paper publication experience is an asset.
- Teamwork skills in the international environment are crucial.
- Excellent statistical and quantitative analysis skills and the ability to work with large data sets, including coding with R, Python, or STATA.
- Effective time management skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Chinese is one of mandatory languages requirement and other languages would be an advantage.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
