Position Summary
To support our business in Kalamazoo, MI we are seeking a Lean Engineering Intern. In this position, you will be responsible for learning the various aspects of the Parker Lean System. This includes participation in continuous improvement events and activities that enhance safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance across manufacturing and business processes. This internship is for Summer 2026.
Essential Functions
- Assist in mapping current processes (value stream mapping, process flowcharting) and identifying waste in production and office environments.
- Support kaizen events and problem-solving activities using standard Parker Lean System tools (e.g., 5S, standard work, visual management, root cause analysis, PDCA).
- Collect, analyze, and summarize operational data (cycle times, defects, WIP, on-time delivery) to quantify improvement opportunities and track results.
- Help develop and maintain Lean documentation such as standard work instructions, visual controls, and performance boards.
- Partner with operations, quality, engineering, supply chain, and EH&S to implement improvements that are practical, safe, and aligned with customer and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare presentations and status updates on improvement activities for supervisors and cross-functional teams.
- Ensure that safety and quality are maintained when implementing changes
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be pursuing bachelor’s in manufacturing engineering, Aerospace, or related engineering field. Candidate shall have completed sophomore year with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
