Primary Objective of the Position:
Reporting directly to Director, Corporate Reporting, the Senior Financial Analyst will ensure timely and accurate preparation of internal and external financial reporting, and compliance with IFRS standards. The role requires strong attention to detail, communication, and analytical skills. This position also requires active collaboration with external auditors (quarterly and annually) and internal stakeholders to support Cargojet’s strategic financial and compliance objectives.
Essential Position Functions:
- Prepare monthly financial reports and other analysis, including period over period, budget vs actual, and forecast vs actual variance analysis for internal and external stakeholders and ensure timely submission with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Prepare the Company’s financial consolidation workbooks, consolidated financial statements, accompanying notes and underlying schedules, and the MD&A; ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with IFRS and TSX listing requirements.
- Collaborate closely with external auditors during quarterly and annual audits and ensure timely submission for audit requests as it pertains to the role.
- Support preparation of the Company’s accounting policies and any technical papers to ensure compliance with IFRS
- Create and maintain documentation of the Company’s internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) and disclosure controls and procedures (DC&P)
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams (e.g., operations) to assess business initiatives, analyze financial implications, and translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
- Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including IT and other finance areas, to support initiatives that improve data quality, integration, and reporting capabilities.
- Prepare any other financial deliverables, e.g. ad-hoc projects as needed.
- Support continuous process improvements and automation initiatives within the finance function.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation is required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in an accounting/reporting role at a public company, preferably listed on the TSX, or equivalent experience with public company accounting and reporting at a major audit firm.
- In depth knowledge and practical application of IFRS standards.
- Advanced user of Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, time-management, and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with auditors and external advisors. Experience with an audit firm (IFRS clients) is an asset.
- Ability to effectively plan/manage/prioritise own workload
- Results-oriented with the ability to work under tight deadlines and manage competing priorities.
- Experience with SAP is an asset.
