About the team you are joining
Part of the Information and Data (I&D) Division, the Data
Governance team defines and implements modern data practices that make data and
analytics easier to find, safer to use, and more trustworthy. We help teams
across the organization get consistent definitions, high quality datasets, and
clear rules for access and usage, so decisions are based on reliable
information. We work closely with data engineering, data product teams,
security, and business stakeholders to improve how data is collected,
documented, validated, shared, and monitored across its full lifecycle.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Data Governance, you will support
the delivery of practical, hands-on data governance and analytics enablement.
This is a technical internship with exposure to cloud data platforms, data
quality, metadata, and security minded ways of working.
You will contribute to initiatives such as data catalogue and
metadata enrichment, dataset onboarding, data quality controls, and light
engineering tasks that support automated governance.
What your day would be like
You
will work with data professionals and subject matter experts across multiple
activities spanning the data lifecycle. Typical responsibilities include:
- Support the onboarding and documentation of datasets by capturing business context, definitions, owners, and key quality expectations.
- Help build and run data profiling and data quality checks, then summarize findings and propose improvements.
- Assist with metadata and governance tasks such as classification labels, access requirements, retention considerations, and usage guidance.
- Contribute to basic data pipeline and automation work, for example SQL transformations, Python utilities, and validation scripts that support quality and governance processes.
- Support cloud-based data work where needed, for example helping teams understand datasets stored and processed in an AWS environment and how they flow into analytics platforms.
- Help produce simple and clear analytics outputs, including Power BI dashboards or exploratory analysis to support business questions.
- Support ad hoc requests for analysis, extracts, and quality investigation, always with a focus on traceability and responsible data use.
We would love to hear from you if
- A recent (within 1 year) Undergraduate or Graduate degree in computer science, data science, statistics, applied mathematics, engineering, operational research, or a related field.
- Solid foundations in data concepts such as data modelling basics, data quality, analytics, and lifecycle thinking.
- Working knowledge of SQL and a good understanding of relational databases.
- Good knowledge of Python or R, ideally used for data analysis, automation, or validation.
- Familiarity with BI tools, ideally Microsoft Power BI.
- Comfort communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences, with clear and structured writing.
- Fluent reading, writing, and speaking abilities in English.
Nice to Have:
- Exposure to AWS or cloud computing concepts, for example storage, access controls, and basic data processing services.
- Interest or experience in data governance, metadata management, data catalogues, or data security and privacy concepts.
- Familiarity with modern data stack tools and practices such as version control, automated checks, and repeatable transformations.
- Curiosity about aviation industry data and how industry standards and reference data are used in analytics.
