As a Commissioning Engineer Apprentice at HM Naval Base Clyde, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the correct installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment and systems that support the Royal Navy's vessels, including the Trident and Astute Class submarines.
This apprenticeship offers practical experience in maintaining and testing vital onboard systems, such as hydraulics, high-pressure air systems, motor generators, and 24v DC systems. You will be responsible for testing and commissioning these systems to ensure they are safe and meet design specifications.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Conducting system health checks
- Creating and refining Test Forms to support health checks
- Setting up systems for operational use
- Performing installation checks
- Carrying out performance testing and trials
- Fault findings and diagnostics
You may also have opportunities to participate in projects focused on enhancing testing methods and optimising test equipment.
Throughout your time in our Commissioning Group, you will deepen your understanding of the systems and equipment critical to Fleet Engineering. The programme will provide you with valuable insights into engineering standards, advanced techniques, and the crucial role commissioning plays in ensuring the operational success of Royal Navy submarines.
