The Mechanic provides a variety of maintenance services such as mechanical repairs and minor building and electrical repairs.
All related duties of trade, and associated troubleshooting, are handled independently. Any procedure requiring overtime or outside contractors, difficulty in meeting scheduled workload, major malfunctions, difficult situations, etc. would be handled in consultation with the supervisor. Building Code manuals, WHMIS and safety manuals are referred to accordingly.
The Facility Maintenance / Mechanic provides a variety of maintenance services such as mechanical repairs and minor building and electrical repairs for a 5-level hospital building.
This role will work days and afternoons on rotation basis. Weekend availability is required.
TRADE SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Checks and repairs mechanical devices such as pumps, motors, air handling units, generator, chillers, boilers, hydraulic systems, parking equipment, plumbing systems, etc.
- Replacing bearings, drive belts, motor greasing, etc.
- Minor welding repairs
- Water treatment testing
- Repairs/installs locks, door closer and all related hardware associated with doors/windows.
- Performs a variety of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance duties throughout the complex and cleans and services equipment as necessary.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Change light bulbs
- Minor door and window repairs
- Install signage/pictures/white boards, bulletin boards etc.
- Cleaning mechanical/electrical rooms and other space “owned” by building services
- Repair office furniture/chairs.
- Change ceiling tiles.
- Clean roof drains.
- Fire extinguisher checks.
- Minor plumbing repairs (change toilet seats, etc.) and plunge toilets
- Small wall fixture removal, small drywall repairs (screw holes, nail holes, etc.).
- Clean/replace diffusers.
- Filter replacement.
- Use of scissor lifts and ladders.
- Responding to demand calls and scheduled PMs with the use of the CMMS data base which includes the use of PDA’s (iPad)
- Assist other (licensed) trades with ANY work not requiring specific license as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and ensures tools and work areas are maintained to standard.
- Maintains confidentiality and release of information in accordance with Hospital and Honeywell policies at all times.
- Obligation to review and commit to applicable departmental, Hospital and Honeywell policies and procedures at all times.
- Supervise/assist contractors as required.

Must Haves:
- 2+ years of experience/training relevant to the mechanical/technical trades.
- Building Maintenance Mechanic (Community College 2-year Certificate Course), or equivalent Certificate of Qualification, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certificate of Qualification in a relevant mechanical/technical trade.
- Immunization (including COVID-19 vaccination) as required by the customer and in accordance with the Public Health Act

- Demonstrated knowledge of equipment and machinery typical to environment, with skill in welding and hydraulics.
- Verbal and reading skill are necessary to read and understand schematic drawings and technical manuals, pertaining to operation and maintenance of equipment.
- Familiarity with electrical computer system support and programming.
- Numerical and spatial abilities required.
- Ability to handle a variety of changing duties, from maintenance procedures to construction work.
