Position Summary
The Supplier Quality Manager leads and directs the supplier quality operations within a large business unit in accordance with the company's strategic objectives; Increases interdepartmental cooperation and focuses the attitude on quality. Ensures products and processes are in compliance with regulations, specifications, contract requirements and quality system standards. This role has direct reports.
The Supplier Quality Manager will be based in Akron, Ohio and reports directly to the Division Quality Manager with strong dotted line reporting to the Division Supply Chain Manager. Will work with the internal staff and outside suppliers, vendors and customers. Must have the ability to deal with people at a cross-functional level. Position requires the ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form to present information and respond to questions from management, suppliers, and customers.
Essential Functions
Establishes and maintains a Supplier Quality System that is effective in producing, measuring and maintaining a supply base measured by DPPM / RPPM, as well as delivery performance, and contractual pricing.
Implements quality policies consistent with customer requirements, quality regulations and the company procedures.
Establishes supplier flow down requirements to support strategic requirements.
Collaborates with Operations and Supply Chain to ensure alignment and help achieve strategic goals.
Establishes and maintains an organization capable of adapting to a dynamic business/ manufacturing/supplier environment which focuses on continuous improvement, good communication, professionalism, and efficiency.
Evaluates supplier compliance to all requirements, identifies areas requiring corrective action, and follows through to ensure effectiveness of improvements.
Focuses the supply chain organization on continuous improvement and utilizes the company tools and techniques to identify, develop, and implement strategy, policy, processes, tools, metrics, action plans and countermeasures.
Creates a comprehensive supplier quality plan to roll out improvement initiatives over each yearly cycle.
Leads and directs work for a team of employees as defined by business needs.
Manages staff selection, performance, development, and training processes to ensure team competencies and capabilities to reach business goals and expectations.
Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
Qualifications
Bachelor degree in Business, Engineering or a related discipline
5-10 years of related experience (Supplier Quality, Quality Assurance & Manufacturing preferred)
Experience managing diverse suppliers of complex products such as hydraulics, electronics, electro-mechanical, or complex mechanical assemblies
Experience providing strategic leadership and developing comprehensive budgets
Solid aerospace experience (military and commercial) highly preferred
Strong team development and management skills to enable the creation of a highly capable and sustainable Supplier Quality Function
Must be able to demonstrate APQP knowledge and experience with respect to managing suppliers doing APQP
Thorough knowledge of state-of-the-art inspection and quality inspection and quality engineering/assurance techniques, procedures, instruments, equipment, theories, principles and concepts and general business operations
Must have ability to effectively solve problems, assess and implement continuous improvement techniques to Quality and Manufacturing functions, to use standard business applications software and/or specialized data analysis tools, to establish goals and objectives to complete projects, and to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Power Bi experience/expertise a plus
Prefer at least two of the following certifications: ISO Lead Auditor Certification, ASQ Certification, Six Sigma Green/Black Belt Certification, and/or ISO Internal Auditor Certification.
Regular travel may be required to customers and suppliers, and may include international travel in addition to domestic travel to support the division's goals.
