We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Manager of Electrical Engineering to lead our Airborne Power & Control Engineering Product Support Team, based in Kirkland, WA. Position Overview
As Manager of Electrical Engineering, you will oversee and mentor a team of Electrical Engineers and Technicians tasked with updating designs, performing failure analyses, conducting qualifications, and integrating complex electrical engineering projects. In this role, you’ll be instrumental in ensuring that engineering initiatives align with our strategic goals while supporting the overall success of the company.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, interview, and onboard top-tier talent to build and sustain a highly capable team.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development for team members.
Project Management & Collaboration
- Oversee engineering projects from conceptualization to completion, ensuring alignment with technical requirements, budgets, timelines, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Support proposals, estimates, plans, and budgets for New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
- Advocate for safety-critical processes and uphold a safe work environment.
Technical Expertise & Innovation
- Drive technical excellence by providing guidance and acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for DO-254 compliance and processes.
- Evaluate engineering tools for effectiveness and lead implementation efforts where necessary.
- Lead failure investigations and root cause analyses, coaching team members through complex problem-solving processes.
- Act as process owner to continuously refine company specifications and incorporate learned lessons.
Organizational Development & Strategic Impact
- Instill operational rigor while balancing cost efficiencies, delivering outcomes with reduced Non-Recurring Engineering.
- Build talent pipelines by engaging with industry partners and universities.
- Support strategic initiatives as a collaborative member of the management team.
Employee Performance Management
- Partner with Human Resources to execute performance reviews, merit discussions, career development, and conflict resolution strategies.
- Provide HR feedback on staffing levels to maintain an optimal workflow balance.

Required Education & Experience
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field and at least 10+ years of related experience, including managing teams.
- Strong expertise in aerospace electronics design, ensuring your team possesses the skills required to succeed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Electrical Engineering degree (or related field).
- Comprehensive experience with DO-254 and ARP4754 industry standards.
Development Focus
- Foster a coaching environment: Inspire thought-provoking leadership by prioritizing strategic insight over tactical direction.
Additional Requirements
- U.S. Person status: As a U.S. Department of Defense Contractor, applicants must meet ITAR eligibility requirements.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range
- $139,516 - $222,863 per year. Most new hires will start near the mid-point of $181,189, subject to factors including experience, certifications, and market conditions.
- Additionally, Astronics offers a highly competitive Quarterly Profit Sharing Bonus.
