Job Description:
L3Harris Broadband Communication Systems (BCS) in Salt Lake City, Utah currently has a position open forLead, RF/Wireless engineer to join our team. We are looking for a senior level RF and microwave design engineer to design and deliver mission critical RF hardware and solutions to our customers, the warfighter. Our design efforts include but not limited to power amplifiers, frequency converters, LNAs, filters, and general RF circuitry for our military communication equipment.
Essential Functions:
- Support the development of communication system architectures from an RF perspective.
- Conduct and support system and sub-system development efforts and design reviews, including deriving RF hardware requirements from customer/system level specifications.
- Participate in the proposal process for programs with RF requirements by estimating tasks budgets, schedules, identifying risk and planning architectures.
- Perform RF hardware circuit design, engineering analysis, simulation and initial testing from the component level up to entire communication systems.
- Lead and work in conjunction with mechanical, systems and software engineering to meet challenging performance requirements.
- Support the RF team with internal peer design reviews, design verification testing of engineering units and oversight of design through production.
- Manage design schedules, budgets and tasking assignments from program inception, development, transition to production manufacturing and through the product Lifecyle.
- Mentor junior engineers, inspiring them to push boundaries of technologies while monitoring creating manufacturable products.
- Develop and present concepts, designs, and results to RF and hardware management focused on growing capabilities and improving design methods.
- Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance. Preferably holds a current clearance
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Candidate must have a background in electro-magnetic (EM) and RF/microwave theory and knowledge of electronic warfare (EW).
- Ability to work independently, as well as direct and coordinate work of multi-disciplinary engineering teams to assure the successful development of RF systems and assemblies.
- Experience designing RF products operating from UHF through E-band. Design activities will include frequency synthesizers, Up/down converters, front-end electronics and other RF electronics for various antenna tracking techniques up through entire RF systems on platforms.
- Experience with Cadence (AWR and Microwave Office), Pathwave RF Synthesis (Genesys) and Siemens EDA (Mentor Graphics).
- Candidate must understand the critical performance characteristics of passive and active RF components such as Amplifiers, Oscillators, Attenuators, Mixers and Filters. An understanding of how these characteristics relate to a communication system's performance is a plus.
- Candidate must have a working knowledge of S-parameters (matching networks, cascade analysis, …), Gain budget analysis (Gain, NF, Linearity, Noise power, …), and Filtering (types, bandwidth, implementations, …).
- A strong understanding of noise figure/noise temperature (Eb/No, BER vs. noise, receiver sensitivity, and expected value and variance), temperature effects, interconnection (standard and non-standard impedances), and isolation requirements.
- Candidate must have experience with defining RF architectures, creating link budgets and performing system-level analysis.
- Knowledge of Link Budget Analysis, including nonlinear effects and their remedies (inter-modulation, IP3, IP2, group delay variation, and dynamic range) is essential.
- Knowledge of prime-power budgets and environmental conditions affect design.
- Experience with common lab equipment, such as: Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers, Receivers, Signal Generators, amplifiers, Antennas, power meters
