STS Aviation Services is hiring Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic Apprentices in Melbourne, Florida. This is an entry-level opportunity designed for individuals ready to begin a structured career path in aircraft maintenance through a registered apprenticeship program. Position Summary
Entry-level position for individuals enrolled in STS Aviation Services U.S.’s approved Registered Apprenticeship Program for Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanics. This role is designed to provide structured, hands-on training under the direct supervision of certificated technicians while the apprentice progresses through required On-the-Job Training (OJT) and Related Technical Instruction (RTI).
Apprentices do not perform work independently and do not exercise certification authority. All tasks are performed under supervision and in accordance with the approved apprenticeship standards, company procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Educational Background / Experience
- All candidates must be at least 18 years of age, and possess a high school diploma or GED (or equivalent)
- All candidates must meet STS employment guidelines and currently be eligible to work in the United States
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with a Photo ID
- Must be eligible to be issued an airport badge
- Must be willing to participate in FAA/DOT-mandated drug and alcohol testing, this is a condition of employment
- Must be accepted into and maintain active enrollment in STS Aviation Services U.S.’ approved Registered Apprenticeship Program.
- No prior aircraft maintenance experience or aircraft knowledge required.

- Willingness and ability to learn aircraft maintenance fundamentals through structured training

- Basic mechanical aptitude and attention to detail

- Ability to meet requirements to obtain and maintain an Airport/SIDA badge
- Ability to meet STS language and communication requirements
Nature of Work
- Assist with aircraft maintenance tasks as part of structured OJT activities
- Learn proper use of tools, equipment, manuals, and technical documentation
- Observe and participate in aircraft inspections, repairs, and maintenance processes as appropriate to training level
- Learn basic aircraft systems, components, and maintenance procedures over time
- Properly document training activities, OJT hours, and completed tasks as required by the apprenticeship program
- Follow all approved maintenance procedures, safety rules, and company policies
- Attend and successfully complete required RTI coursework and evaluations
- Perform other duties as assigned that support learning objectives and daily operations
Desired Characteristics
- Be able to read and interpret technical manuals, instructions, blueprints, and drawings.
- Must be able to sit, stand, bend, crouch, kneel, and walk for extended periods.
- Must be able to climb and work from ladders, work stands, and other heights.
- Must be able to work with one or both hands extended overhead.
- Must have correctable near and far vision.
- Must be able to hear at conversational level with hearing aid.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Must be able to handle and maintain control of small parts and properly operate hand tools.
Classification
- Non-exempt, Hourly – Full Time
General Responsibilities
- Clock into Kronos prior to shift start.
- Report to assigned Supervisor/Lead at beginning of shift.
- Receive assigned task and clock into time tracking system.
- Obtain all manual references, tooling, consumables, etc. required to perform assigned task.
- Perform assigned task in a timely manner.
- If Inspection buy back is required all required references and signature blocks completed prior to requesting QC Buyback.
- Report to assigned supervisor/Lead for next assigned task.
- Adhere to break and lunchtimes as designated by the company rules.
- Cell phones not allowed for personal business during assigned shift.
- Drinks not allowed in assigned work area and/or on top of toolbox, tables, etc.
- Return all tooling prior to end of shift.
- Clock out of time tracking system and Kronos at end of shift.

Rate of Pay
The Apprentice Pay Structure Is Progressive And Based On The Current Journey Worker Rate Of $28.00 Per Hour. The Wage Progression Is As Follows
- 0–6 months: $18.00 per hour
- 6–12 months: $20.00 per hour
- 12–18 months: $22.00 per hour
- 18–24 months: $24.00 per hour
- 24–30 months: $26.00 per hour
Upon successful completion of the program and receipt of the FAA Airframe & Powerplant license, the apprentice advances to the journey worker rate of $28.00 per hour.
