About the team you are joining
You will join IATA’s Aeronautical Charges team — a diverse, collaborative group of professionals located across six offices globally. We come from a variety of professional, cultural, and academic backgrounds, united by a shared purpose: ensuring that aviation infrastructure is efficient, affordable, and aligned with the needs of airlines and their customers.
You will play a key leadership role within this community — supporting experts, speaking with our member airlines and our advisory working group. The impact of your work will be felt across the industry – we support our members faced with a c.a. $150 billion/year bill for infrastructure which sometimes grows unfairly. Our counterparts often don’t operate in competitive environments and convincing them is a challenge – but keeping these costs in check ensure not only airline survival but also economic and traffic growth.
The role is based in Madrid, Spain; other European locations where IATA has offices can be considered depending on how well you fit the profile we are looking for.
What your day would be like
You will help deliver IATA’s strategy on airport and ANSP charges. Your work will be both strategic and hands-on, combining analysis, advocacy, leadership, and cross team collaboration. You will lead high impact campaigns with airports and ANSPs, engaging with senior officials and regulators. You will represent the industry, aligning stakeholders across our nearly 400 airline members as well as fellow associations. In some cases directly, but notably with the team’s help, you will apply your analytical and financial expertise to review proposals, write submissions, identify efficiency opportunities and ensure fair outcomes. This can involve analytics, communication, negotiation and some litigation. You will work with the global team to ensure consistency and alignment in terms of our messaging as well as adopting best practices in the way we deliver.
You will also be responsible for guiding and developing the team of SMEs. Manage accountability and quality standards within the team with a focus on team performance. This means fostering team and individual learning by mentoring, training and promoting collaboration. You will also lead internal projects which span teams and divisions. Every day will be different — some structured, others reactive — reflecting the dynamic nature of global aviation. You will work in an environment that is fast paced, intellectually demanding, and deeply collaborative.
We would love to hear from you if you have
Strong experience in economic regulation, infrastructure pricing, and financial analysis;
A solid understanding of airport and ANSP business models, regulatory frameworks, cost of capital and consultation processes;
Ability to analyze complex technical material and communicate clear, persuasive messages;
Strong communication and presentation skills, relevant when drafting regulatory submissions and presenting to senior stakeholders;
Experience leading virtual, multicultural teams operating in a global context;
A collaborative mindset, strong teamwork skills and a transparent way of working.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds. If you believe you can contribute meaningfully to this mission, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every criterion listed.
