Description
Job Purpose:
As a Senior Legal Specialist in Litigation, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of contentious matters, including commercial, employment, and passenger disputes across various jurisdictions and in conjunction with User and Sponsor departments to protect the interests and meet the business requirements of Qatar Airways Group. You will provide accurate and business-oriented legal advice to Qatar Airways and its subsidiaries.
Roles And Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of litigation and other contentious commercial, employment, and passenger matters across multiple jurisdictions.
- Work closely with the business to assess risk, develop strategy and formulate approach as well as to advise on handling complaints and disputes that arise pre-litigation.
- Draft and review legal correspondence, memos, briefs, analysis; reviewing & revising legal briefs.
- Instruct outside counsel, review their draft documents, coordinate disclosure/discovery, prepare witnesses, formulate strategy and manage legal spend.
- Assist in any legal disputes (including but not limited to customer complaints, employment issues and other criminal/legal issues) in liaison with User Departments (as applicable).
- Identify potential risks and threats to the projects and propose appropriate mitigation plan to management.
- Contribute to and implement policies, systems, processes, procedures and standards covering all relevant business operational functions so that all operational requirements are fulfilled while complying and delivering a quality service to our internal and external customers.
- Participate in preparation of routine reporting to senior stakeholders and auditors.
- Conduct research and provide advice on various areas of law including new developments as required or directed to advise business and Group Legal department management.
- Depending on circumstances and workload, manage one or two direct reports.
- Perform other department duties related to his/her position as directed by the management.

Qualification
About You
- Educational degree sufficient to qualify for practising law in the relevant jurisdiction (e.g. J.D. for US jurisdictions or Bachelor's Degree for other common law jurisdictions).
- Licensed to practice law in a US or European (including UK and Ireland) jurisdiction; consideration may be given to those licensed in other common law jurisdictions based on experience.
- Minimum of 10 years’ post-qualification experience working in litigation and contentious matters, with a preference for international and/or cross-border litigation.
- Fluent English speaking and writing skills.
- Strong drafting, legal analysis, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in common office technology, including MS Office package, generative AI, and online research tools.
- Keen eye for detail and strong presentation skills.
- Proven track record of handling complex issues.
- Managerial skills - ability to delegate work, set clear direction and manage workflow.
- Strong mentoring and coaching skills; ability to train and develop skills of direct reports; ability to foster teamwork among team members.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
- A self-starter.
- Flexible in approach, with a "can do" attitude.
- Fluency in Arabic is a plus. Fluency in other languages is also a plus.
Preferred
- Experience with employment law issues, including advisory and litigious matters.
- Experience working in private law firm setting.
- Experience in a medium or large matrixed/cross-functional environment.
