Job Summary
As a Manufacturing Engineer, Provide Manufacturing Engineering capability to operational and development Programs to enable and deliver zero defect projects utilizing engineering and problem solving skills.
You are accountable for delivering robust, capable manufacturing process technology as it applies to materials, tooling, part fabrication and assembly.
Job Responsibilities
- General
- Exemplifying a safety-first mind-set and ensuring compliance with the GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards.
- Responsible for the development of technical solutions to complex problems within GKN Aerospace, our customers and suppliers.
- Deliver technical support of manufacturing process development and integration for production.
- Utilize root cause analysis, preventative and corrective action to reduce/eliminate non-conformances.
- Maintain positive, team relationships with internal and external customers, as well as co-workers
- Continuously improve production processes by implementing Lean initiatives.
- Product ME
- Responsible for the development of manufacturing process solutions to complex problems through:
- Accountable for the implementation of production planning, from original concept through to production. Design these processes to a high level of process capability through utilizing the GKN standard Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite and align with Project Lifecycle Management Gates.
- Accountable for product development, first article development, configuration changes, build process definition and implementation.
- Accountable for development on new product introduction (NPI) in accordance with Engine Manuals and other relevant engineering data.
- Developing Repair Work Breakdown Structure.
- Supporting Project Steering Committee Meeting by preparing and presenting the meeting materials.
- Accountable for product training to technicians on Engine Manuals requirement and standards.
- Accountable to liaise with Engine OEM for any product development and clarification.
- Accountable for product internal and external audit.
- Process ME
- Responsible for the development of manufacturing process solutions to complex problems through:
- Accountable for any process development on machines and processes for new product or process introduction (NPI).
- Supporting Supply Chain in resourcing new materials introduction.
- Leading machine acquiring activities such FAT, SAT and technical communication with supplier.
- Participate in physical development (hands on) of repair methodology.
- Accountable for any process changes for improvement, implementation, and first article.
- Supporting lean initiatives by working with technicians on process improvement, 5S activities and kaizen events.
- Accountable for process technical training for technicians on machine operating system and programming.
- Performing the process certifications assessments for technicians.
- Accountable to liaise with machine OEM and Facilities & Maintenance team for troubleshooting.
- Working with the team to solve any issues within production to minimize daily production down time.
- Working with the team in root cause analysis, preventative and corrective action to eliminate non-conformances.
- Configuration Management
- Responsible for implementation, execution and adherence to product configuration management processes through:
- Preparing configuration documentations and maintaining the data quality, integrity and security of Configuration Management (CM) database.
- Deploy CM standard and recommend enhancements to existing CM processes through deployment of Lean Operating Model and global collaboration with other CM teams.
- Audits the CM database and analyse configuration issues. Implement appropriate resolutions to audit findings and configuration issues.
Job Qualifications
- Technical expertise in Manufacturing/Process/Product Engineering, with a professional qualification/Bachelor Degree/Professional Degree in Engineering (Aerospace/Aviation), Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, NDT).
- Fully competent in own field of work, developing skills in other areas.
- Increasingly able to provide Technical input at all levels of work in terms of product requirements or machineries.
- Capable of being a technical representative, representing the business at a customer / supplier meeting.
- Identifies and anticipates technical problems and offers solutions.
- Drives to complete the job on time and continually searches for better ways of doing things.
- Understands situations by analysing them logically and uses information in a systematic way identifying appropriate course of action for resolution.
- Ability to apply complex and non-routine analysis.
- Well Versed in PFMEA, 7QC Tools, Control Plan and RCCA.
- Strong documentation skills.
- Trained on Train the Trainer is an advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Manufacturing/Product/Process Engineering.
- Working knowledge of quality system models such as ISO9000, AS9100, or D1-9000
- Fluent in English language, both written and spoken
- Participates in activities within a global technical community and understanding of the interface with broader business functions.Competent member of the technical community with a good understanding of other disciplines.
- Acts without supervision in own area whilst able to supervise others.
- Applies knowledge and skills to a range of activities.
- Understands the formal and informal structure of the business.
- Provides support to the technical community and show commercial awareness at local level.
