Our client is a leader in the design and manufacture of custom-engineered pumps and motors for critical applications in power generation, nuclear research, and small modular reactor (SMR) development. They design, engineer, and manufacture to order.
To support a large contract with a SMR to custom engineer and manufacture pumps for a new build, they are expanding their Advanced Nuclear Group and have created a new Sr. Project Manager position. The person hired into this role will manage the overall commercial and execution leadership of large, complex nuclear pump projects from contract award through project closeout, with an emphasis on testing.
This role is 100% remote and, as this is a new position, compensation is open/negotiable.

Requirements:
- Due to Federal Contract requirements, US Citizenship is required for this position.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Project Management, or related technical field.
- 8+ years of experience in project management within custom-engineered equipment/ manufacturing (nuclear strongly preferred).
- Demonstrated experience managing large, complex, multi-disciplinary projects with significant customer interaction.
- Strong understanding of project execution methodologies, financial management, and risk management principles.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred:
- PMP
- Familiarity with Cost Plus Fixed Fee (CPFF), Firm Fixed Price (FFP), and other complex contract structures. Understanding of nuclear industry standards and regulatory environments.
- Experience with first-of-a-kind (FOAK) or advanced technology development programs.
Responsibilities:
1. Overall Project Execution
- Lead project execution from purchase order receipt through final delivery and closeout.
- Establish and maintain integrated project execution strategies aligned with scope, budget, schedule, and customer requirements.
- Ensure coordination and alignment across engineering, procurement, quality, manufacturing, finance, and supplier organizations.
- Drive execution accountability across the project team while maintaining focus on customer satisfaction and project profitability.
- Ensure project priorities and resource needs are communicated effectively to functional leadership.
2. Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as a commercial and execution interface with the customer following contract award.
- Lead recurring customer meetings, executive reviews, and project status discussions.
- Ensure timely communication of project progress, risks, issues, and recovery plans.
- Manage customer expectations in a dynamic project environment with evolving technical and commercial requirements.
- Coordinate customer communications across technical, quality, schedule, and commercial areas through the appropriate project leads.
(Technical design discussions and detailed technical deliverables are led by the Lead Project Engineer and supporting engineering team.)
3. Commercial Management & Change Control
- Maintain accountability for project financial performance, including budget adherence, cash flow, invoicing support, and cost forecasting.
- Oversee project change management processes and ensure scope, schedule, and cost impacts are identified and communicated appropriately.
- Coordinate with Contract Administration to ensure contractual obligations, customer notifications, and formal change documentation are properly managed.
- Monitor project performance against contractual commitments, including milestones, deliverables, and liquidated damages exposure.
- Support internal financial reviews and executive reporting.
(Contract interpretation, compliance administration, and detailed contract documentation responsibilities reside with the Contract Administrator.)
4. Schedule & Risk Management
- Ensure development and maintenance of integrated project schedules incorporating engineering, supplier, manufacturing, and testing activities.
- Maintain visibility into critical path activities, long-lead items, and execution risks.
- Contribute to project risk identification, mitigation planning, escalation, and recovery actions.
- Ensure project decisions appropriately balance technical, schedule, commercial, and operational considerations.
- Drive timely resolution of execution issues impacting project performance.
(Detailed schedule analytics, KPI reporting, and project data management responsibilities reside with the Project Analyst.)
5. Supplier & External Partner Oversight
- Maintain high-level oversight of critical suppliers and subcontractors supporting project execution.
- Coordinate with procurement, engineering, and quality teams to address supplier-related risks, delays, or escalations.
- Participate in strategic supplier discussions and high-impact issue resolution activities as needed.
- Ensure supplier execution aligns with overall project objectives and customer commitments.
(Detailed supplier technical coordination resides with the Supplier Interface Project Engineer; commercial procurement execution resides with the Project Buyer.)
6. Team Coordination
- Coordinate a cross-functional project organization that may include:
- Project Engineers
- Quality Engineers
- Project Buyer
- Project Analyst
- Contract Administrator
- Supporting project engineering and quality personnel
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and execution-focused project culture.
- Facilitate conflict resolution and cross-functional decision-making.
7. Strategic Project Execution & Continuous Improvement
- Support development and refinement of project execution methodologies for FOAK nuclear projects.
- Identify opportunities to improve coordination, reporting, supplier integration, and execution efficiency.
- Capture lessons learned and support continuous improvement initiatives across programs.
- Support strategic planning activities associated with advanced nuclear and SMR project growth.
