The role
As a Principal Civil Structural Engineer, you’ll have an exciting opportunity to take a leading role in complex engineering projects that support the UK's defence infrastructure. You'll join a highly skilled team delivering innovative civil and structural engineering solutions within one of the most unique and technically challenging environments in the country. Your expertise will help ensure the safety, resilience and long-term success of critical facilities, while offering outstanding opportunities for professional growth and career development.
Day-to-day, you’ll lead the delivery of civil and structural engineering design packages, providing technical leadership across projects from concept through to completion. Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you'll influence major infrastructure programmes, engage with key stakeholders and help solve complex engineering challenges that directly support national security.
- Leading the delivery of civil and structural engineering work packages to agreed scope, quality, cost and schedule requirements.
- Managing technical design packages throughout the engineering lifecycle, from identified need through to handover.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to understand requirements and incorporate these into design solutions.
- Providing technical leadership, subject matter expertise and guidance to engineering and design teams.
- Ensuring compliance with quality, safety, governance and configuration management requirements across all activities.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements
Essential experience of the Principal Civil Structural Engineer
- Demonstrable experience managing and delivering complex engineering design projects throughout the full design lifecycle.
- Strong background in civil and structural design within a comparable engineering or infrastructure environment.
- Knowledge of architectural design principles for industrial buildings and facilities.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing multiple technical interfaces.
- Experience in the design and substantiation of heavy civil engineering and building structures; experience with dry dock structures would be advantageous.
Qualifications for the Principal Civil Structural Engineer
- Degree, or equivalent qualification, in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional institution, or significant demonstrable engineering experience with the capability to achieve Engineering Council registration at Chartered level.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
