Job Summary: Product Improvement: Responsible for product improvement initiatives of mechanical and hydraulic components primarily used in aircraft brake control systems, as well as seat actuation system components. Identifies product and/or process improvements, provides justification, and implements approved improvements. Sustaining Engineering: Provides technical assistance to all internal departments, suppliers, and customers as it relates to manufacturing, assembly, and test of mechanical products. Prepare documents required to define products, or changes thereof, and show verification of analytics. Essential Functions: Utilize proficient problem solving processes, documentation, tools and analyses to identify root cause and corrective actions to technical challenges and/or issues in support of product improvement and product sustaining assignments Evaluate suitability of nonconforming products as member of Material Review Board Conduct failure analysis examinations and prepare Failure Analysis Reports (FAR) of findings. Design, develop, and implement new technologies and processes related to enhancements of current products and processes. Create new products and modify existing products to support customer, applicable regulatory and industry standard, and market requirements. Perform trade studies to optimize design solutions. Create or calculate tolerance stack ups, performs reliability and Failure Modes and Effects analyses. Generate Design Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (DFMEA) Prepare, review, and approve documentation required to define and control products. Support design reviews, both with external customers and internal, as required. Provide technical support to all internal departments, suppliers, and customers as it relates to the product. Ensure successful completion of assigned project phase within budgeted time and cost constraints. Complete other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering 0-2 years in aerospace industry; experience in other industries with development and manufacture of complex hydraulics and electro-mechanical components can be considered in lieu of aerospace. Experience in designing of major aircraft actuation and distribution components and/or systems, such as hydraulic valves, actuators and electromechanical devices Thorough knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 standards, Tolerance analysis, and Computer Aided 3D Design. Fundamental engineering analyses, including but not limited to fluid dynamics, mechanical design for hydraulic components, systems and pressure vessels. Working knowledge of practical manufacturing techniques, quality assurance requirements and factors affecting product/program costs. Knowledge of analytical tools such as SolidWorks and its analysis suite is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to organize prepare and present materials to customers, suppliers and/or company management at all levels. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications.
