Johnson Service Group is looking for a Director, Peptide Chemistry R&D for one of our clients in San Francisco. The Director of Peptide R&D will lead and manage the Peptide Research Department, overseeing peptide design, synthesis, and research projects while collaborating with global teams and clients. The role requires strategic leadership, scientific problem-solving, and the ability to drive innovative solutions in peptide drug discovery.
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the Peptide Research Department, ensuring high-quality work.
- Provide leadership by setting goals, motivating the team, and training new staff.
- Design effective peptides and address synthesis challenges.
- Coordinate peptide research efforts with various chemistry teams globally.
- Lead integrated service projects for clients using companies resources.
- Prepare reports and recommendations based on research outcomes.
- Guide the development of new chemical technologies for peptide drug research.
- Share research findings through publications, reports, and conference presentations.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across different disciplines and with external partners.
- Work with Business Development to attract new, high-value clients.
- Utilize remote laboratory management systems to oversee and guide ongoing research projects.
Job Requirements:
- Proven success in drug discovery, evidenced by publications, patents, or IND filings.
- Strong management skills, including strategic planning, budgeting, and team building.
- Ability to solve complex scientific problems and develop innovative solutions.
- Strategic decision-making skills, weighing costs and benefits to choose the best approaches.
- Active learning and adaptability to incorporate new information into problem-solving.
- Excellent communication skills, with fluency in English; Mandarin is a plus.
- Creative thinking for generating novel ideas and solving problems.
- This role will oversee a remote-operated laboratory
Education:
- PhD in Peptide Chemistry or Pharmaceutical Chemistry, with at least 5 years of experience.

Salary range $185-205K
