In the role of a Supplier Industrialization Engineer (m/f/d), you will act as the technical link between Joby’s internal teams and our global suppliers. You will support the industrialization and qualification of critical components, working closely with suppliers from initial evaluation through production ramp-up. We are looking for someone with strong manufacturing knowledge who can act as a technical partner to our suppliers and help establish robust, scalable manufacturing processes.
Your Responsibilities:
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) and supplier industrialization activities, from initial supplier identification and technical evaluation through qualification, first production deliveries, and handover to Supply Chain.
- Identify, evaluate, and technically qualify new suppliers in close collaboration with Purchasing, Supply Chain, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, and Design.
- Work closely with suppliers to understand their manufacturing capabilities and establish robust, scalable, and efficient manufacturing processes.
- Conduct supplier evaluations, technical reviews, process audits, and qualification assessments to ensure suppliers meet manufacturing and quality requirements.
- Support the development and review of supplier quality documentation, including control plans, PFMEAs, inspection plans, PPAP documentation, and First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR).
- Support suppliers throughout the initial production phase, including qualification of first parts, troubleshooting technical and quality issues, root cause investigations, and implementation of sustainable corrective actions.
- Act as a technical interface and sparring partner between external suppliers and internal teams, including Quality, Supply Chain, Manufacturing Engineering, Design, and Purchasing.
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with suppliers and support them in continuously improving manufacturing processes, quality, and production performance.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of Supplier Industrialization Engineering processes, tools, audit methods, and inspection standards.
Your profile:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, process engineering, supplier industrialization, supplier quality, or a similar technical role.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and industrial production environments.
- Experience in metal manufacturing, surface treatment or other special processes, precision machining, or CNC manufacturing is a must.
- Experience working directly with suppliers, including supplier qualifications, technical supplier management, process assessments, or supplier audits.
- Ability to understand and evaluate manufacturing processes, identify potential risks, and work with suppliers to develop practical and sustainable solutions.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships, communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and adapt flexibly to changing priorities and environments.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%, both domestically and internationally
- Fluent German and English skills, both written and spoken.
