The role of the Scylla ISS Contract Manager is to support the Scylla ISS project team to successfully deliver this programme, by providing contract management support, specifically for the Scylla ISS programme portfolio. In this role the Contract Manager’s areas of focus are:
- Support the achievement of the Thales Australia Underwater Systems financial and strategic objectives;
- Ensure compliance with ethical and contractual undertakings; and
- Ensure the commercial integrity of commitments being made on behalf of the company.
The Scylla In Service Support (ISS) programme is a complex, multi-entity, programme split into a portfolio of projects. The contracting arrangement varies between the projects with separate reporting obligations although the aims of the various projects align into common deliverable objectives.

YOUR ROLE
Working at our Rockingham site on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk and Binjareb Nyoongar peoples, your role purpose will be:
- Proactively leading and managing contractual and commercial issues that may arise, including coordination of commercial claims;
- Working directly with the UWS business and the Scylla programme team, provide high quality and timely commercial and contractual advice to key stakeholders, interpreting the contract and scope of work for the project;
- Ensure that a robust contract baseline is established and maintained for each contract within the Scylla Programme;
- Monitor progress and performance of each project Regularly liaising with Project Managers and attending Contract Status Reviews to proactively manage risks and opportunities in relation to the contractual aspects of the projects
- Identify and monitor any potential subjects of contractual disagreement or dispute, and where relevant, liaise with and support the Legal, Contracts & Compliance function regarding disputes or litigation.
- Oversee contract administration processes to ensure contracts are accurately and efficiently managed in accordance with the contractual requirements and recorded within the project data repository and Configuration Management system;
- Ensure contractual data and communications is administered, maintained and accurate, consistent across all projects within the Scylla programme (both customer and subcontractor);
- Ensuring that the contractual commitments with the customer, suppliers and subcontractors are recorded, tracked and early warning provided to project teams to enable them to respond on time;
- For new projects within the Scylla programme, manage project start-up and facilitate transfer of knowledge from tender process to project delivery phase;
- Proactively manage the Scylla contract to ensure Thales recovers entitlements (e.g. compensation for new scope) or protects its position (e.g. extension of time claims for potential delays), e.g. drafting claims registers and establishing structured weekly
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in your role, you will have demonstrated and/or acquired the following knowledge and experience:
- Tertiary qualification (Diploma or greater) in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Law or a related discipline is essential;
- Experience in contract management with a Tier 1 or 2 company in complex and high value contract environment, preferably in high technology environments;
- Through understanding of project delivery principles, contract law, pricing and business acumen;
- Excellent client liaison and people management skills;
- Prior experience within a Defence-related industry either within Australia or overseas;
- Knowledge of and experience in ASDEFCON Templates/Contracts;
- Demonstrated advanced negotiating, analytical, financial and numeracy skills.
- Previous experience in P6 and EVMP would be advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, analyse and provide insights through reporting at a senior level.
- Demonstrated understanding of contract law and pricing
- Delay/disruption and claim experience;
