Position Summary
Position Summary:
Advocates and supports the Corporate WIN Strategy for the Cylinder value stream by independently managing the customer claims and in-process quality, and by supporting supplier quality (including fully outsourced complete cylinders) together with the department's SQE, with particular focus on non-standard customized orders. Improve quality related processes through data collection, analysis and driving corrective actions. Effectively enhance quality management through implementation of Quality Management Systems, and promotion of quality culture, to ensure the department's and the plant's quality objectives are achieved.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Own the full quality lifecycle of the Cylinder value stream independently: APQP planning at new product introduction, PPAP submission and customer approval, MSA and Cpk monitoring in serial production, through to closure and effectiveness verification of customer claims.
- Develop and establish quality management system, procedures, control plan, and quality performance metrics.
- Take lead and work with all departments to maintain ISO 9001 quality system operations and certification.
- Work with Engineering team to identify key characteristic to be controlled in our manufacturing process. Deploy tools to measure and control process capability.
- Establish and own the quality control route for non-standard / customized cylinder orders, where volumes are low and there is no serial-production history: drive design and manufacturability review before order acceptance, define order-specific control plans and inspection criteria, and enforce first-article inspection and documented release prior to shipment.
- Apply related measures to control and improve product quality, including Customer Reject Parts Per Million (RPPM), Supplier Reject Parts Per Million (SRPPM), Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) and Manufacturing First Pass Yield (FPY) for the Cylinder value stream. Within these metrics, SRPPM shall be tracked separately for outsourcing suppliers of complete cylinders, and first-pass yield and claim rate shall be monitored specifically for non-standard customized orders.
- Communicate with internal and external customers on quality issues, maintain good customer relationships and ensure customer quality requirements are met.
Partner with the department's Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) and interface with Supply Chain / Procurement to drive resolution and improvement of incoming quality issues for the Cylinder value stream, to meet the Company's requirements.
Own supplier quality for fully outsourced (complete-cylinder) suppliers together with the department's SQE: supplier qualification and on-site audits, approval of their PPAP and control plans, definition of incoming and source inspection requirements, and containment plus corrective action on any quality escape.
- Drive permanent resolution of quality issues, working across departments to perform effective root cause analysis using 8D, Parker 10-Step or other structured problem-solving methods, and verify effectiveness of corrective actions.
Document lessons learned, drive read-across corrective and preventive actions, and reduce internal scrap and customer claims.
Provide direction and training to production operators to prevent scrap and customer claims throughout the process, through training sessions, problem-solving meetings and similar means.
- Participate in and contribute to process improvement initiatives and goals, applying continuous improvement and key lean manufacturing principles and techniques to critical areas of production.
- Other related tasks as assigned by supervisor or department.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or above in Engineering; Mechanical or Industrial Engineering highly preferred.
Over 5 years of quality experience in mechanical manufacturing, including at least 3 years as the lead quality engineer independently owning a product line or value stream.
Solid command of ISO 9001 and working familiarity with IATF 16949; skilled at process audits, layered audits and on-site audits of suppliers and outsourcing partners, and able to host customer and third-party certification audits independently. Certified internal auditor preferred.
Proficient in the core quality tools and able to apply them hands-on, not just in theory: APQP (including control plan), PPAP, FMEA, MSA (including Gage R&R and bias/linearity evaluation) and SPC (including Cp/Cpk/Ppk capability studies). For serial-production parts, must be able to run capability studies independently and drive improvement from the results; for non-standard and low-volume orders, must be able to apply alternative controls (first-article and full-dimensional inspection, process validation and error-proofing) where SPC sample sizes are not available.
Proven track record and strong problem-solving skills, such as 8D, 5-Why, etc.
Proficient with Minitab or equivalent statistical software.
Background in hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic components or precision machining/welding, with working knowledge of cylinder construction and sealing systems, is preferred; construction machinery or automotive component experience is also acceptable, and accumulator experience is a plus. Hands-on experience controlling quality on non-standard / low-volume customized orders, and managing fully outsourced (complete-cylinder) suppliers, is strongly preferred.
Proactive and positive working style, with the interpersonal skills to work effectively across functions, with suppliers and in a multicultural environment.
Good English communication skills; able to work in English with overseas customers and the division.
