Role Overview
Reporting to the Support Engineering Manager, the Field Service Engineer will provide on-site technical support and troubleshooting for our government contracts division. This position requires a comprehensive background in avionics, radio communications, and technical support, particularly within the defence sector with the ability to provide solutions to the current phase of the project.
Key responsibilities of your role will include:
- Providing on-site technical support and troubleshooting for various government contracts related to avionics systems, radio communications, and other defense-related equipment.
- Support testing activities within the program as required and liaise with key stakeholders to ensure that planned testing meet their requirements.
- Work collaboratively with the Technical and System Engineering Teams to establish testing/V&V priorities and ensure a joined-up approach for the System Integrator.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing their inquiries, providing solutions, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Manage and coordinate project activities, including equipment installation, configuration, testing, and maintenance, adhering to project timelines and requirements.
- Conduct training sessions for end-users and customer personnel, ensuring their proficiency in operating and maintaining equipment according to specified standards.
- Maintain accurate records of project activities, including technical documentation, service reports, and project updates. Provide regular progress reports to project stakeholders.
- Work closely with internal teams, including engineers, project managers, and logistics personnel, to achieve project objectives and deliver exceptional service to our clients.
Skills and experience:
- Requires the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Degree or Certificate IV or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in field service engineering, preferably in the defence industry.
- Thorough knowledge of avionics systems, radio communications, and related technologies, including HF – VHF – UHF, Tactical Radio Systems, ARC-210, HF-9500, and military GPS systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills, capable of effectively communicating technical concepts to diverse audiences, including clients and internal stakeholders.
- Experience with project management methodologies and tools, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for project assignments.
Successful candidates must be eligible to hold and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance at minimum NV1.
