Do you have jumbo dreams of maximizing your career while developing software for display systems for the flight decks of large commercial aircraft? Come join our team as a Software Engineering Co-op for Summer/Fall 2025 in the Avionics Air Transport Displays department. This organization is responsible for developing and supporting real-time embedded software for numerous processing platforms used in our commercial airline avionics products and cockpit display systems. Working with other software and systems engineers, you will have the opportunity to develop flight deck display systems used on platforms such as the 737 MAX, 777X and 787 Dreamliner, among others. Join our team and work together to define requirements, design, develop code, and integrate and verify the functionality of software in our onsite engineering lab.
This role is onsite, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
What
You Will Do:
- You will work with an integrated team of Collins engineers throughout the software life cycle to design, develop, verify, and deliver total systems solutions.
- You will design and Implement system requirements in software and create/update tests to verify the code implementation meets the requirements.
- You will review artifacts, such as requirements, code, and tests, that others produce and implement changes that others identify when peer reviewing artifacts that you have produced.
- You will work with a desktop computer in an office environment and with target hardware in an engineering lab to achieve the goal of delivering a high-quality software product within schedule and cost constraints.
What
You Will Learn:
- You will be paired with a “copilot”, or technical mentor, and work alongside the “copilot” and other software engineering team members to experience a real industry project.
- You will gain knowledge on performing technical planning/estimating, software development, and software verification for total flight deck display systems.
- You will learn about and apply industry standards such as ARP-4754 and DO-178 and DO-330 among others.
- You will gain exposure to Avionics regulatory and certification requirements and processes.
Qualifications
You Must Have:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
- U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Programming experience in C, C++ and/or Python.
- Comfortable with real-time operating system and object-oriented programming concepts.
- Experience with all phases of the software development life cycle.
- Demonstrated interest in embedded software solutions and board-level device drivers.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
