The Role
As an Assistant Chief Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll provide technical leadership, independent technical oversight and subject matter expertise to the Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Reconnaissance and Cyber engineering teams to develop, install and support bespoke engineering solutions for our customers.
Day-to-day, you’ll:
- Provide governance and oversight of the technical work of the Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Reconnaissance and Cyber engineering teams, to ensure that our technical output is optimally compliant to customer requirements.
- Ensure that the appropriate level of independent assurance is applied to the technical output, including chairing design reviews and conducting independent review of deliverables.
- Help grow the Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Reconnaissance and Cyber business through supporting bids, business development activity and representing Babcock in external meetings.
- Provide subject matter expertise in the areas of Radio Frequency communications and Satellite Communications (SATCOM), Cyber and Electromagnetic Activities (CEMA), Signals Intelligence and Electronic Warfare (SIGINT).
- Ensure technical risks and issues are being appropriately managed and mitigated.
- Ensure that our solutions are safe to build, commission and operate by our suppliers, customers and end users.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential Experience of the Assistant Chief Engineer
- Significant experience and subject matter expertise in one of the relevant domains, including communication systems and electronic warfare, including the development of new solutions using a formal systems engineering approach.
- Experience of Communications and Electronic Warfare systems and cyber-engineering capabilities is preferable.
- Experience of overseeing the technical work of others, including reviewing designs and documentation, and authorising the release of deliverables.
- Demonstrable experience of engineering delivery on large and/or complex engineering projects.
Qualifications for the Assistant Chief Engineer
- Engineering degree or equivalent relevant experience.
- Professional Registration with a relevant recognised body would be desirable.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance to start in this role. You will need to achieve and maintain Developed Vetting (DV) once in the role.
