The role
As a Health Physics Monitor, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary, working on a unique project to dismantle our legacy nuclear submarines. This is a key role in demonstrating compliance with company and regulatory requirements and is critical to the success of this project.
Day-to-day, you’ll work as part of our team supporting nuclear submarine dismantling operations, including;
- Monitoring of the workplace / personnel for radioactive contamination and/or ionising radiation;
- Provision of front-line radiological safety advice and control;
- Receipt, assay, processing, storage and consignment of radioactive waste;
- Environmental sampling and monitoring;
- Clearance / reassurance monitoring of equipment / waste from radiologically Controlled Areas;
- Acting as part of our on-site emergency response team.
This position involves working in confined / restricted spaces on board nuclear submarines; candidates must be able to work comfortably and perform tasks in restricted spaces. This position also involves manual work and could include lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods of time.
This role is full time, 36 hours per week over a four day working week. You will be based onsite at Rosyth.
Essential experience of the Health Physics Monitor
- Experience of working on a nuclear licensed site
- Works in a safe manner – able to understand / follow our control of work procedures, risk assessments, permits, etc.
- Comfortable working at height and in confined spaces on occasion
Qualifications for the Health Physics Monitor
- NVQ level 2 radiation protection or equivalent experience
