The role
As a Commercial Specialist, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be working on a range of interesting marine system and equipment contracts providing procurement and engineering support services. The position will play a key role in ensuring the successful outcomes of our projects and offers the chance to collaborate with us and our partners as we drive forward making a positive impact for our customer the Royal Navy.
Day-to-day, you’ll have responsibility across a range of projects, performing key tasks identified below and be keen to demonstrate a positive impact in each of the following areas, challenging the status quo when necessary and championing the high performance this team strives to deliver:
- To act as a focal point of contact for customers and key stakeholders (internal and external) regarding contractual matters by establishing and maintaining beneficial and effective customer relationships and communications.
- Provide support across the Commercial team and into the wider business with input to pricing, proposal preparation, pre-bid/contract documents, customer deliverables, stakeholder reviews and maintenance of records.
- Provide support to the development of appropriate sub-contract arrangements that mitigate commercial risk through the application of appropriate flow down of terms and conditions or bespoke contracting methods.
- Support the maintenance and provide compliance to commercial policies, processes, procedures and regulatory requirements ensuring they are followed consistently across the business streams.
- Support the commercial focal point to the business stream reporting on commercial activity, commercial risk mitigation strategies and any emergent commercial issues which may impact contract performance.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements in the office/onsite and working from home.
Essential experience of the Commercial Specialist:
- Experience of contract and bid management within UK defence or other highly regulated industry.
- Experience of dealing with high value, complex contractual arrangements.
- Awareness and understanding of commercial terms and types of agreements including knowledge of intellectual property principles and its application.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and problem solving skills with an emphasis on relationship management.
Qualifications for the Commercial Specialist:
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Business, Law or demonstrable time served experience essential.
And/or
- Functional qualifications which may include Membership of Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS), International Association for Contract and Commercial Management (IACCM) or Post Graduate Certificate in Commercial Management (PGCCM) or willingness to work towards as part of continuous professional development.
