The role
As a Driver you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll play a key role working within a small but highly effective team where the highest standards will be expected. You'll drive and operate a wide range of general and specialist vehicles, from Passenger Carrying Vehicles (PCV, which include cars, minibuses and coaches), to both rigid and articulated Large Goods Vehicles (LGV). You'll be responsible for making sure RAF personnel, equipment and vehicles get to the right place, at the right time.
Day-to-day you’ll be responsible for:
- Transporting recruits and station personnel between units and the local area, using a range of vehicles
- Carrying out detailed monthly checks of the vehicle fleet, reporting all defects to the Transport Control Office
- Prepping the vehicle fleet for graduation days
- Uniform will be provided and must be worn as a matter of company policy
This role is full time and based onsite at RAF Halton, near Aylesbury. You'll work an average of 39 hours a week on a shift basis, however you'll need to be flexible as there may be changes to the roster from time to time, to meet customer needs. Once PCV Licence is gained the annual salary will rise to £29,475.
The shift roster is made up of of the following:
- Days 08:00-17:00 Mon-Thurs and 08:00-16:00 on Fridays
- Days 07:30-16:30 Mon-Thurs and 07:30-15:30on Fridays
- Earlies 06:00-13:30 Mon-Fri
- Lates 13:00-20:30 Mon-Fri
- One weekend shift in every eight weeks, 06:30-18:30 (days off in lieu will be given during the week to avoid working seven days that week)
Essential experience of the Driver
- Experience of driving a variety of vehicles
- Sound knowledge of Driver's Hours Regulations in accordance with EU Directive 561/2006
- Ability to engage effectively with internal and external personnel at all levels, including senior stakeholders.
- Must enjoy driving to various parts of the UK
Qualifications for the Driver
- CAT B and provisional CAT D Licences
- Passenger Carrying Vehicles (PCV) DVLA Licence Category D desirable
- Large Goods Vehicles (LGV) DVLA Licence Category C desirable
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain SC security clearance for this role.
