If you’re passionate about data science and artificial intelligence, this 4-year graduate apprenticeship provides the ideal foundation for a successful career as a Data Analyst. You’ll work towards a BSc (Hons) in AI and Data Science while gaining extensive workplace experience in data reporting and analysis.
About the programme
As part of the Data Analyst team at HM Naval Base Clyde, you will play a key role in the Performance Department. This department is involved in a wide range of activities, including maintenance planning, asset management, space planning, data analytics, and contract reporting.
This diverse scope of work offers exciting opportunities for you to rotate through various responsibilities, contributing meaningfully to the team’s objectives. You will get to work with and learn from a wide range of colleagues and internal and external stakeholders.
You can expect to undertake tasks such as:
- Assisting in the development and delivery of data related to contract performance and execution.
- Supporting data analysis across multiple systems to optimise performance and ensure compliance.
- Assisting in the development of risk-based strategies for managing assets - spanning acquisition, installation, maintenance, refurbishment, and disposal of both new and existing assets.
- Contributing to the enhancement of business processes by identifying data that can inform process improvements.
- Helping shape the asset information strategy by preparing reports, scrutinising data, and identifying anomalies.
- Participating in transformation initiatives by collaborating with the business to develop, test, and sustain data-driven solutions that drive decision-making.

Your education/training
As part of your apprenticeship, you will study for a BSc (Hons) in AI and Data Science with Glasgow Caledonian University, providing you with a strong academic foundation in data science principles.
Your on-the-job training will complement and reinforce your academic learning. You will have regular opportunities to apply the skills gained in your studies, including programming, data science, software processes, and human-computer interaction.
Throughout the programme, you will expand your knowledge of data analysis, improvement methodologies (e.g., DMAIC), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, reporting, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). You will also develop both technical and soft skills, including data reporting, presenting to stakeholders, teamwork, and driving organisational change.
Additionally, you will gain experience with a variety of software and tools, such as ERP systems like IFS and SAP, Microsoft Office (including advanced Excel), SQL, VBA, Python, and Power BI - equipping you with the skills needed for a successful career in data analytics.

Data science skills are in high demand, offering excellent career prospects and a range of pathways to explore. Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship, you can expect to take on a role within the Data Analyst team.

- Minimum of 4 Highers at Grade B or above including Maths and/or Computing.
- For this apprenticeship, Glasgow Caledonian University requires you to be resident in Scotland.
