The role
As a Non-Destructive Testing Technician, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will support on Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities across our Successor Programme. We are responsible for manufacturing 22 tactical missile tube assemblies as part of the common missile compartment (CMC) project for the UK Successor and US Ohio Class replacement submarine programmes. This highly specialised, internationally significant work is part of the second phase of the project at Rosyth and places Babcock as a critical supplier of missile tube assemblies, utilising our core skills and expertise delivering part of a programme to support the future deterrent submarines for both the UK and US Navies.
Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for NDT Testing using the Penetrant (PT), Magnetic (MT), and Ultrasonic (UT) inspection techniques.
- Carry out Magnetic Particle Inspection, Liquid Penetrant inspection and Ultrasonic Inspection of welds and machined components in compliance with Babcock International’s and our customers approved procedures and techniques.
- Accurately report on all NDT activities within a timely manner.
- Hold safety to the highest regard in all completed tasks, following approved risk assessments where applicable.
This role is full time, 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with a 1pm finish on Friday’s and is based at our Rosyth Dockyard, Rosyth, Fife site. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work overtime and nightshifts if desired, for which we pay excellent overtime and shift disturbance rates.
Essential experience of the Non-Destructive Testing Technician
- Proven working knowledge of the practices and standards associated with Penetrant (PT), Magnetic (MT) inspection techniques, and Ultrasonic (UT) inspection techniques.
- Can demonstrate the ability to read and understand high level technical standards and drawings.
- Able to confidently communicate with stakeholders of all levels across our business.
- Confidently able to use the Microsoft Office Suite and an end user level.
Qualifications for the Non-Destructive Testing Technician
- A minimum of a PCN level 2 qualification in Magnetic Particle Inspection (MT), Liquid Penetrant inspection (PT) and Ultrasonic (UT).
- It would be highly beneficial for the successful candidate to hold a PCN Level 2 in Radiographic (RT) and Visual (VT) but this can be supported through our inhouse training and certification programme.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) and Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
