The Cargo OCC Lead (COL) is responsible for providing day-of operational escalation support for cargo warehouse and airside cargo ramp operational teams on shift. The COL is key for making decisions on shift, considering safety, and protecting Cargo’s operational and commercial interests. The COL is responsible for coordinating with operational groups, incorporating their input in decision making, and effectively communicating their decisions to applicable groups. They are also responsible for working closely with all stakeholders within the OCC to protect cargo commercial and operational interests. Each COL shall strive towards creating connections, listening actively, and communicating openly to create a remarkable experience in all interactions with WestJet and WestJet partners.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and support daily cargo operational needs.
- Provide guidance, cargo operational expertise, & leadership to OCC, warehouse, and ramp operation teams for all cargo stations on the performance of duties and activities, and delegate appropriate authority when necessary.
- Accountable on shift to provide direction to manage the cargo product on WestJet and WestJet Encore flights.
- Work closely with all stakeholders within the OCC to protect cargo commercial and operational interests, with an emphasized focus on interaction and coordination with Load Control.
- Accountable for conducting investigations on all operationally impacting incidents, errors /deficiencies, or service failures associated with the successful movement of cargo from origin to destination.
- Work closely with and take direction from Cargo Sales to understand and support commercial goals and objectives.
- Influence stakeholders during IROPs while ensuring all cargo operational and commercial interests are optimized for both WestJet and WestJet Encore flights.
- Monitor for procedural deviation and accurately document and report performance trends.
- Produce daily reports on operational status on items such as station, flight, or AWB level issues or service failures, challenges, and successes.
- Accountable for day-of ULD movement requests and support.
- Accountable for conducting/supporting investigations on all safety related incidents.
- Activate and complete ER checklists when required and appropriately escalate with Cargo Leadership while maintaining operational oversight and control.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications:
- 3+ years of relevant Cargo work experience and previous work experience in airline operations.
- Must be knowledgeable of applicable cargo handling and Transport Canada regulations.
- Thorough knowledge of cargo warehouse, ramp, and freighter handling operations is required.
- Ability to build and influence relationships.
- Ability to make key decisions independently.
- Must be detailed and driven with the ability to process information quickly while understanding the overriding goals.
- Excellent presentation skills with the ability to communicate information that tells a story, highlights key insights, and influences business decisions.
- Proven success in independently meeting tight deadlines in a fast paced and continuously evolving work environment.
- Experience in enhancing operational efficiency and safety.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time and handle high call and email volumes.
- Ability to support our 24/7/365 Operations Control Center by being flexible and able to work early mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays, through shift work
