An exciting opportunities for Mechanical Technology Engineers has arisen to influence and shape the future of the Defence business in India. The roles involve working with business and external stakeholders to support the delivery of key programme milestones thus enabling the delivery of our Defence Combat strategy.
Mechanical Technology (stress) engineers ensure the integrity of our products. They work across a wide variety of commodities from critical parts (e.g., Discs, Blisks, Shafts and High Pressure Casings) through blades and vanes to structures and installation components. They predict the mechanical behaviour of components and sub-systems taking into account various failure mechanisms (e.g., proof, ultimate, fatigue (low & high cycle), creep etc.) and contributing factors (e.g., vibration, thermal induced loads, inherent manufacturing anomalies, corrosion, extreme operating conditions such as over-speed etc.). The role of a Mechanical Technology Engineer includes being influential at all stages in the design cycle, through the products service life to component disposal.

What you will be doing:
- Perform analytical assessments (stress, lifing) to support new design concepts, and maintain support to in-service operations.
- Apply appropriate tools and methods, ranging from hand calculations to analytical design space exploration/optimisation, with an emphasis on simplicity.
- Work as part of a multi discipline teams to ensure new designs are fit for purpose.
- Identify opportunities for improvement in tools, methods and processes and support capability team in development and deployment of enhanced capability.
- Define plans for analysis tasks; working with key stakeholders to ensure all work meets customer expectations and is completed to an agreed quality standard.
Who we’re looking for:
- Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering. Other qualifications, in combination with relevant experience, may also be considered.
- Experience in finite element modelling and analysis (e.g., Ansys, NASTRAN, NX) and an understanding of material behaviour, crack initiation and propagation, thermo-mechanical fatigue, and statistics is highly desirable.
- Ability to effectively communicate the methods and results of complex analyses to peers, senior colleagues and external organisations such as customers or regulatory bodies.
- A broad understanding of Gas Turbine physical and functional characteristics would be advantageous.
- Highly numerate with strong technical and analytical skills, problem-solving ability and capable of systems level thinking.
- Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, and will need to be able to contribute effectively in a team environment.
