The position calls for an R&D engineer with mechanical specialisation background to assist in automation and robotic system development projects. He/She will be responsible for working alongside internal and external stakeholders, utilising their technical knowledge and skills to bridge the gap between development and sustainable deployment of such systems, ensuring that these projects meet their deliverables. The candidate will work in ST Engineering Aerospace Ltd (540 Airport Road): Transformation & Technology Office & also Transformation Centre of Excellence.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work with Team to engage end-users and analyse user needs to develop concept, design, test, implement, debug and commission customized semi and fully automatic systems to improve productivity, process efficiency, reduce quality defects, improve safety & overcome repair technical challenges in fast-paced production shops.
• Work with Team to develop new ideas and concepts to enhance company's performance and competitiveness in the field of industrial automation and robotics
• Assist in prototype design, assembly, testing and troubleshooting process (lab and in-field systems)
• Support troubleshooting, investigation and implement improvement solutions of production process equipment, systems related to quality and safety issues
• Support team on follow up with cross-functional teams and customers to develop work plan, & deliverables for new initiatives
• Assist in generating and outlining project schedule to keep all stakeholders up-to-date promptly
• Support team with engagement of external vendors and system integrators to deliver Automated and Robotic equipment
• Engage with departmental stakeholders such as EHS, Quality and Engineering to ensure smooth coordination of project activities
• Engage with partners from research institutes and institutes of higher learning (IHL) to explore the emergent technologies, drive the direction and execution of lower TRL projects
• Working with the above stakeholders, ensure that delivered projects are sustained, including managing feedback and reviews from end users
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
• Any track record (university or previous company projects) of prototyping, or designing mechanical applications or structural aspects of automation (and/or robotics) systems in lab or production environment
• Must have strong background in Design Thinking process, having utilised it in university or previous company projects
• Proficient in 3D modeling software such as Solidworks, Creo, NX or Inventor
• Experienced in mechanical drafting practices and a working knowledge of terms, rules, and applications of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Good understanding of material selections, machined part fabrication and processes
• Must be able to work and communicate effectively in a team environment across the organization hierarchy with a proactive attitude
• Must have excellent problem-solving, organisational, analytical and critical thinking skills, with an attention to details and ability to work independently
• Proficient at presentations with a strong grasp of professional and technical writing
• Able to perform work under relatively stressful environment and deal with ambiguity in project scope
Good to have:
• Any kind of experience in automation / robotics software
• Knowledge of industrial robots' applications would be an advantage
• Any kind of experience in machine programming (control and/or vision) is a plus
