The role
As a Functional Skills Tutor, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. It will provide opportunities to grow and develop your career, achieve a healthy work life balance and to be recognised for the great work you do.
Day to day, you’ll deliver recognised Functional Skills courses in English and Maths which forms a key component of an Apprenticeship Standard. Tutors are expected to be able to deliver Maths and English to mixed groups of Soldiers (max class size x16) some of whom may have Learning Difficulties.
- Conduct assessment, invigilation and marking of assignments.
- Provide fair and constructive feedback in written and verbal form.
- Deliver remedial training and revision (during working hours) as required.
- Prepare lesson plans, learning resources and trainee supporting materials.
- To review teaching inputs regularly in the context of changing needs of students and programmes
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 4 weeks in the office/onsite at Tidworth Camp, near Salisbury, and then 1 week working from home.
Essential experience of the Functional Skills Trainer
- Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Proven record in delivering training.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office applications
- Good understanding of work-based learning programmes.
Qualifications for the Functional Skills Tutor
- Functional Skills Level 2 English
- Functional Skills Level 2 Maths
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Enhanced Disclosure Barring Service + Security Check (EDBSSC) security clearance for this role.
