Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to lead manufacturing in the development and improvement of manufacturing processes site wide. Responsible for leading Manufacturing Engineering activities throughout the fabrication, assembly, integration, and/or test process for high reliability electro-mechanical/electro-optical aerospace products. The type of hardware produced at this L3Harris location is often complex, containing scanners, telescopes, aft optics, detectors, active and passive coolers, electronic units with circuit card assemblies (CCAs), calibration targets, thermal control systems, and cables/harnesses.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing, configuring, and optimizing industrial processes from inception through to start up and certification.
- Participate in reviews and respond to plant production quality issues.
- Lead reviews of the manufacturing processes for quality compliance and efficiency.
- Use of Lean Six Sigma tools to lead development and implementation of Lean Initiatives to drive continuous product improvements, integrate automation solutions and increase yield.
- Designing and implementing manufacturing tools and fixtures.
- Generate manufacturing assembly documentation and provide direct support of personnel in the day-to-day execution of the manufacturing, inspection and test operations.
- Demonstrated ability using FMEA & DOE techniques to determine root cause and execute corrective actions of manufacturing process problems, workmanship defects, test failures, etc.
- Collaborates with Design Engineering to review and evaluate New Product Development (NPD) drawings, drive new designs toward optimized production processes which ensure the producibility of the hardware, engage with Suppliers early in the Design process.
- Analyze ECOs (engineering change orders) impact to Operations including, material in stock, work in process, and work outsourced to suppliers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience in Manufacturing Engineering. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience in Manufacturing Engineering. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior experience in Manufacturing Engineering.
- Experience with 3D CAD software, (e.g. CREO).
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Prior experience prioritizing multiple tasks.
- Able to work ITAR or EAR projects.
- Ability to work in a cleanroom environment.
- Willing to work overtime, shift work or extended shifts, weekends and holidays as required.
- Ability to occasionally travel up to 20%.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Active government secret security clearance.
- Knowledge of process related standards, ex. J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, MIL-STD-883, NASA 8739.1/8739.4, etc.
- Direct experience with deploying lean manufacturing strategies and techniques.
- Excellent analytical problem-solving skills and capability.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with ESD safeguards and contamination control.
- Knowledge in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, technical writing, MS Project and/or MS SharePoint.
- Embodis strong professional work ethic, self-motvation and high attention to details.
