SUPERVISOR, MECHANICAL (HVAC)
As a member of the critical infrastructure team, you will help design, build, activate and maintain some of the world’s most technically advanced manufacturing facilities. You will be able to operate with autonomy to solve diverse and complex problems, excel at managing multiple projects at a time and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. As a Mechanical Supervisor, you will lead the 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift technician team and be the extreme owner of all infrastructure work. The Facilities Mechanical Supervisor is an important role and directly impacts the foundation of the Hawthorne site. This position will help to ensure that we keep facility maintenance costs low, vendors competitive and efficient, and find better ways to enhance our image to customers, visitors, and VIPs. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead a team responsible for performing inspections, testing, maintenance and repair of campus wide systems; including mechanical/HVAC, compressed air, dust collectors, plumbing tasks (backflow preventers/etc) as well as other preventative maintenance and repair programs covered by facilities operations
- Lead and direct a team of plumbing, compressed air, and HVAC focused facility technicians
- Schedule daily work and prioritize assignments
- Develop, plan and execute site improvement projects in accordance with overall business objectives and strategy
- Know and understand all safety procedures of SpaceX in order to observe the work of contractors and bring safety concerns to their attention as needed. Report all unsafe acts and conditions which remain uncorrected to supervisor. Allow no work to be performed when conditions are considered unsafe
- Maintain appropriate records for all trades as required
- Know and understand mechanical equipment such as: chilled water systems, boilers, VFDs, pumps, PLC’s, condensers, split systems, air compressors, dust collectors and other mechanical equipment
- Communicate with Manager on daily activities, projects, team moral and concerning issues
- Manage vendor/contractor finances. Work with SpaceX buyers and AP to assure accounts are maintained
- Oversee team of techs, driving overall performance and effectiveness through individual coaching and development
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 3+ years of experience with facilities management
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in construction, engineering or equivalent
- Knowledge of building management and automated facilities monitoring systems and processes such as: HVAC systems, fluid plumbing systems, generators, compressed air systems or fuel storage systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint
- Experience managing budgets and third-party vendors
- Experience negotiating contracts and comparing service costs to achieve maximum value
- Experience with asset management software
- High attention to detail and cleanliness standards
- Ability to work independently with little direction
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
- Ability to anticipate needs and develop innovative solutions for continuous improvement
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This is not a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the Hawthorne, CA area
- Ability to provide 24/7 on-call support of critical activities and emergency situations
- Willing to perform work in extreme outdoor environments – cold, heat, and rain
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range:
Supervisor, Facilities: $105,000.00 - $135,000.00/per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
