Astronics Advanced Electronic Systems (AES) is seeking a Supervisor, Engineering Lab to join our cohesive team of professional problem solvers in Kirkland, WA.
Job Summary:
The Engineering Lab Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations and administration of our state-of-the-art engineering development laboratory. This role involves managing a team of lab technicians and engineers, ensuring the safety and efficiency of all lab activities, and working with the Lab Manager to drive continuous improvement in our testing and development processes. The ideal candidate will possess technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and coordinate daily lab activities to ensure productive and safe operations.
- Supervise and mentor a team of lab technicians, providing guidance and support for their professional development.
- Enforce lab policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Perform monthly safety audits.
- Manage and maintain laboratory equipment, including scheduling regular maintenance and calibrations.
- Work with Manager to develop plan and execute lab improvement and safety initiatives.
- Utilizing extensive experience to apply engineering principles in performing Technician tasks such as testing, wire harnesses development and troubleshooting circuit cards.
- Drive continuous improvement in lab processes including 5S, cleanliness, and efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, execute, and analyze experiments and tests.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all lab activities, experiments, and findings.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance lab efficiency and productivity.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and drive root cause analysis for any lab-related problems.
- Provide input to capital and lab budget to Manager and ensure cost-effective use of resources.
- Stay current with advancements in engineering and lab technologies to continuously improve lab capabilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field highly preferred. Candidates with an Associate degree (AS) in Electronics Technology or related field / equivalent electronics military schooling and experience may also be considered.
- 5 years of experience in an engineering laboratory setting preferred, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Proficiency with lab equipment and instrumentation relevant to power electronics
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and regulatory requirements in a lab environment.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to lead and inspire teams.
- Demonstrated problem-solving capabilities and a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with lab data analysis software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Work Environment:
- Primarily lab-based with some office work.
- May involve occasional exposure to high voltage, electrical hazards, power tools, chemicals, and other standard lab risks. Moderate noise environment.
- Requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
Physical Requirements:
- Manual dexterity to handle precise and intricate lab tasks.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 40 lbs.

Employment Eligibility Requirements:
- As a US Department of Defense Contractor, Astronics is bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Must be a US Person under ITAR to be eligible.
- An offer of employment is contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment background screen and drug test which includes screening for the use of cannabis.
Base salary range is $94,208 - $141,313 per year.
