Babcock is looking for Trades Assistants to join the Boilershop team based in Devonport, Auckland.
About the role
Step into an exciting hands-on role in our welding and fabrication workshop! As a Trade Assistant, you’ll work alongside skilled welders and fabricators, helping with tasks that keep projects on track. From preparing metal surfaces and assisting with basic welding to keeping the workspace safe and organized, this role has a great mix of variety and teamwork. Every day brings something new, giving you valuable experience in a supportive, learning-focused environment.
We’re looking for someone with a can-do attitude who’s interested in building skills and growing within the trades. Our workshop is committed to safety, quality, and teamwork, so you’ll be part of a crew that has your back. With regular opportunities for training and learning, you’ll gain practical experience in fabrication and welding while being part of a respected company in the field.

- 1.5x paid after 40hrs
- 2x paid after 43hrs
About you
You’re reliable, eager to learn, and have some hands-on experience in a workshop or fabrication environment. You work well with others, follow instructions carefully, and bring a positive, can-do attitude to each task. With basic skills in grinding, welding, or metalwork, you’re ready to jump in and assist wherever needed. Safety is always your top priority, and you take pride in doing every job well.
