Thales OME designs a range of state-of-the-art solutions for some of the most technically advanced defence and security platforms in the world, and we’re seeking talented interns who can apply their knowledge and skills in a summer placement.
This opportunity would suit a student from an Electronics Engineering or similar discipline, and in particular, we are looking for students who have an interest in working with analog and digital circuits for optronics applications.
As an Electronics Engineering intern, you will work closely with the Software team as well as the System team in designing and implementing electronic circuits, which will ultimately be fitted within some of our products. You will gain hands-on experience in developing and testing electronic boards, troubleshooting hardware issues, and collaborating on cross-functional projects. The role may cover any aspects of the product lifecycle, from concept studies, requirements, selection of technology, design and development, integration, validation and qualification.
About You
We are looking for undergraduates studying a Bachelor (BEng, BSc) or Masters Degree (MEng, MSc) in Electronics Engineering (Analog/ Digital/ Mixed signal/ Communications or similar engineering) or a scientific subject with strong bias towards electronics.
The position would suit an undergraduate engineer with an interest in one or more of the following:
- Analog and/ or Digital Electronics design (circuit simulation, block diagrams, schematic capture..)
- Electronics lab work (soldering, cable assembly, prototype build, etc)
- Safety electronics, thermal imagery, motor control or video processing
- Fundamental understanding of firmware and software
- Familiarity with testing and measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analysers, etc.)

YOUR CAREER AT THALES
Whilst this is an 6 months intern placement, it could potentially lead to full-time employment.
There is ample opportunity to develop your skills within Thales, developing as an engineer, further progressing to senior technical roles (e.g. Hardware Architect or Technical Specialist) or managerial roles (Technical lead/ manager).
Training is provided through a mixture of mentoring, online and in-person courses. Thales actively encourages membership of professional organisations such as the IET, and will pay membership fees and support individuals to work towards Chartered status.
Due to the nature of the work that we do at Thales, many of our roles are subject to security restrictions. This role requires Security Clearance (SC) . It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance prior to commencing employment.
