Discipline Manager – Electronic Engineering

Thales Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) UK is a principal supplier of UAS, Electronic Warfare and Radar equipment to the UK armed forces, as well as an exporter of these capabilities worldwide.

- Digital Radar Electronic Support Measures (RESM) that provides situational awareness and identify threats even in busy Electronic Transmission Environments
- Radar Electronic Countermeasures (RECM) that can protect assets by denying tactical advantage and distracting incoming threats.
Role overview
We are currently recruiting a Discipline Manager to manage our Electronic Engineering team. They teams will consist of a team of roughly 20 talented engineers. The role will hold functional responsibility for the team and report into the Head of Hardware.
Critical to the role success will be strategic planning, resource management, succession planning and an ability to lead transformation activities as we adopt new tools to continue to enhance our best in class tools, process and teams.
Please note, we do not require experience in the Defence/Aerospace environments as the role leans more towards People Management, knowledge of these areas would be advantageous but we are very open to candidates with experience across various regulated sectors.
As the Discipline Manager for Electronic Engineering, you will be responsible for:
- Deploying the adequate Practices and Tools tailored to reach the required maturity according to Project/Product delivery challenges
- Working with the discipline delivery team to make them efficient - identify gaps and associated actions to support delivery continuous improvement
- Encouraging adoption of the New technologies
- Capitalising and share knowledge and assets
- Allocating Operational Subject Matter Experts on coaching engineering people
- Managing and developing people, skills & allocation to products/projects
- Contribute on Bids/Products and Projects peer reviews to reduce technical/engineering risks and increase confidence to deliver
Skills, experience and knowledge required:
- Ability to empower and unite employees around clear objectives by acting as a coach, influencing and developing “team first” skills
- You have a deep understanding of capitalisation, cost estimate and knowledge management
- You have substantial knowledge of the Electronics or Electrical Engineering discipline.
- You are familiar with the Electronics or Electrical Engineering discipline as well as the interfaces to other disciplines that are dependent on or support to
- You are able to support deployment and implementation of new Electronics Engineering discipline tools
- You thrive on the capitalisation and continuous improvement of best practices
- You demonstrate a strong desire for continuous improvement and a capacity to develop a strategic vision: you are able to integrate and even anticipate the various elements of your environment in order to guide the team through the challenges prompted by competitiveness
- You know how to adopt a Lean Management approach and apply Agile principles to the management and development of your team, in Scrum and / or Kanban mode
