Role Summary
The Operations Research Scientist II is responsible for developing solutions to design, development, and continuous improvement of mathematical models and optimization methods used by the Revenue Management and Capacity Planning groups at Alaska Air Group (AAG). As an individual contributor, this role makes recommendations to improve machine learning, and optimization techniques to address and solve complex business challenges, developing and implementing sophisticated models that provide actionable insights, and foster data-driven decision-making throughout the organization.
Key Duties
Develop and maintain advanced decision science optimization models and methods to create value for Alaska Air Group.
Prototyping and delivery of decision support tools to optimize objective functions aligned with business priorities.
Creates and defines tests and simulations of business problems to support business objectives. Uses statistical tests to determine positive business decisions.
Translates Revenue Management and Capacity Planning business problems into advanced analytical experiments and models that blend data sources for creative insights into business problems and to align performance with the company’s strategic goals – detailed action plans, key performance indicators, and progress metrics.
Leverages technology to enhance department performance and productivity.
Develops visualizations grounded in statistical best practices that facilitate effective communication of results and key findings to internal and external stakeholders.
Selects the best methodologies to approach business problems and contributes to the continuous improvement of stakeholder processes and data life cycle.
Research new data sources and analytical tools to enhance the data-driven business process.
Create and Document model design and configuration to train new and existing team members.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
2 years of experience in analytical role, operations research or industrial engineering
Bachelor’s degree, or an additional 2 years of training or experience in lieu of this degree.
Detailed knowledge and understanding of business intelligence functions, including but not limited to analytics, data mining, reporting, report conversion, data cleansing, data modeling and relational databases
Advanced skills in Python, SQL, and R
Demonstrated experience working with disparate data sources and data blending
Experience with application of AI/ML algorithms to business usage
Experience with applied statistics and probability
Entrepreneurial spirit to develop and own projects
Ability to work well with multiple, diverse teams
Data-driven mindset and a proven history of continuous self-development
Minimum age of 18
Must be authorized to work in the U.S
Preferred
PhD in Operations Research or Industrial Engineering
Demonstrated experience in managing complex projects or processes
Experienced in AI/ML algorithm generation and usage

Salary Range
$90,300 -- $135,500 / year
Salary Details
Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
