Role Summary
The Operations Research Scientist III is a subject matter expert in the design, development, and continuous improvement of mathematical models and optimization methods used by the Revenue Management and Capacity Planning groups at Alaska Air (AAG). As an individual contributor, this role exercises considerable judgment to make decisions in machine learning, and optimization techniques to address and solve complex business challenges, developing and implementing sophisticated models that provide actionable insights, and foster data-driven decision-making throughout the organization and provide recommendations to address and provide actionable insights, decision-support tools, and optimization suites that improve pricing, inventory management, schedule & fleet performance, and overall revenue generation to the Revenue Management and Pricing Department and profit maximization to the Capacity Planning Departments.
Key Duties

Lead the development and maintenance of highly advanced decision science optimization models and methods driving significant value creation for Alaska Air Group.

Design, prototype, and deliver sophisticated decision support tools that optimize complex objective functions addressing strategic business priorities.

Oversee and lead the development of comprehensive tests and simulations of complex business problems to support business objectives.

Translates Revenue Management and Capacity Planning business problems into advanced analytical experiments and models that blend data sources for creative insights into business problems and to align performance with the company’s strategic goals – detailed action plans, key performance indicators, and progress metrics.

Leverages, develops, and evaluates technology initiatives to enhance department performance and productivity.

Develops and presents visualizations grounded in statistical best practices that effectively communicate strategic results and key findings to senior leadership.

Selects the best methodologies to approach business problems and contributes to the continuous improvement of stakeholder processes and data life cycle. Guides and mentors junior team members to find the best avenue of approaching their decision making.

Drive innovation by exploring and integrating the latest advancements in data, technology, and tools to advance team growth.

Mentor junior team members in operational research best practice to foster their professional growth.

Collaborate with leadership to identify and prioritize strategic initiatives where operations research can significantly contribute towards value creation.

Create and Document model design and configuration to train new and existing team members.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
-
4 years of experience in analytical role, operations research, or industrial engineering.

Bachelor's degree, or an additional 2 years of training or experience in lieu of this degree.

Detailed knowledge and understanding of business intelligence functions, including but not limited to analytics, data mining, reporting, report conversion, data cleansing, data modeling and relational databases

Advanced skills in Python, SQL, and R

Demonstrated experience working with disparate data sources and data blending

Demonstrated experience in managing complex projects or processes

Experienced in AI/ML algorithm generation and usage

Experience with applied statistics and probability

Entrepreneurial spirit to develop and own projects

Ability to work well with multiple, diverse teams

Data-driven mindset and a proven history of continuous self-development

Minimum age of 18

Must be authorized to work in the U.S
Preferred

Salary Range
$112,000 - $168,000 / year
Salary Details
Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
