About the role
The Head of Flight Crew leads British Airways Pilots and Ground Support Colleagues driving lasting transformational change amidst a fast paced operational, regulated and unionised environment The role requires an inspirational and approachable leader with experience of driving success through large teams in a complex operational environment.
Key duties
- Leads all people management and recruitment elements of our Flight Crew, fostering a high-performing, efficient and motivated workforce.
- Drives a culture of continuous performance improvement, safety enhancement and exceptional customer service, providing guidance and counsel to the Fleet Chief Pilots
- Fulfils Duty Senior Management obligations when rostered for on-call operational leadership across Flight Operations
- Designs and implements change projects to improve Flight Operations, whilst influencing and monitoring budget control
- Maintaining an exceptionally high-level understanding of policies, collective agreements including scheduling agreements and rostering practices
- Oversees all operational obligations across the department, such as delay management and day-to-day transactional support.
- Works in partnership with the Director of Flight Operations and HR Business Partner to drive engagement across our flight crew and grounded colleague populations, promoting continuous feedback through cyclical surveys and various people initiatives across recognition, wellbeing and general support
- Oversees, understands and initiates relevant BA policies and procedures specified by the Company, in conjunction with the day-to-day management of pilot conduct, capability/performance and attendance
- Works closely with the designated People Manager Advisor, HR Business Partner & Legal Team to ensure a fair and consistent colleague experience
- Accountable for the de-escalation and management of legal challenges in partnership with our Legal team relative to employee relations
About you
- Experience of leading and driving success through large teams in a complex operational environment
- Industrial Relations experience at a senior level, including engaging in TU engagement ideally in large scale industrial workforces
- Experience in cultural transformation and change
- Knowledge in employment law, HR leadership and practice
- Budgetary ownership and control
- Inspirational and approachable leader
- Passion for creating value and ability to lead transformational change
- Promotes a culture of continuous improvement with clear strategic direction
