We are looking to recruit a Senior Health Physicist to join the Radiation Protection team at Rolls-Royce Submarines.
You will work as part of a team of radiation protection specialists supporting two nuclear licensed sites at Raynesway within the Core Manufacture business unit. The business is embarking on a significant period of regeneration, which provides an excellent opportunity to develop and gain experience in the nuclear industry.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Health Physicist (ideally who is working towards RPA status) to join Rolls-Royce Submarines to aid us with the regeneration of our Raynesway Nuclear Licenced Site Facilities. This role will be pivotal in the wider support of the Royal Navy and the UK defence strategy.
Rolls-Royce Submarines is entering a once in a generation period of substantial growth. We are looking for a talented and experienced planning professional to lead in an established, long term (10+ year) UK Nuclear infrastructure programme.
The role on offer is a critical support position working to deliver a major nuclear infrastructure programme with a value in excess of £1bn.
You will work as part of a multi-disciplined safety and engineering team and maintain a strong working relationship with the wider radiation protection specialists supporting two nuclear licensed sites at Raynesway within the Core Manufacture business unit. What you will be doing
You will act as radiation protection lead for nuclear new build projects and decommissioning. You will also:
- Provide practical and technical advice to all levels of the business to maintain compliance with statutory legislation and the attainment of industry best practice
- Undertake radiation risk assessments and support the implementation of effective risk management controls
- Critically review, analyse and summarise data in order to draw conclusions and make recommendations
- Identify, implement and monitor appropriate radiological protection measures to ensure work is carried out safely and in line with best practice.
- Develop and deliver specialist radiation protection training, as required
Who we’re looking for

- Previous experience of working with ionising radiation and have Nuclear Licensed Site experience.
- Relevant experience in some or all of the following areas:
- Radioactive Waste Management
- Decommissioning
- Control of radioactive substances (sealed and unsealed)
- Dosimetry (internal and external)
- Instrumentation
- Radiological protection risk assessment
- Personal Protective Equipment
- Self-motivated with a proven track record of achieving results with minimal supervision as well as having excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Excellent numeracy, verbal communications and report writing skills.
- Holder of a current RPA 2000 certificate of competence OR an experienced professional in Health Physics including operational support and advising on compliance with current legislation and working towards RPA accreditation.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place.
