Johnson Service Group is looking for a Safety Manager with Minimum of 3 – 5 years of safety management experience in operational field-based environments. Must be OSHA certified. This is a Direct hire job in the San Dimas, CA area.

Job Summary:The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive health and safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role carries primary ownership of regulatory compliance, safety leadership in the field, and continuous improvement of safety performance across all operations. The Safety manager is expected to maintain strong working knowledge of California safety regulations, including Cal/OSHA Title 7 CCR, and to act as a visible, respected safety leader within active job site environments.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Provide functional guidance and direction to field supervisors and employees regarding safety practices
- Support foreman and project managers in implementing safety requirements
- Coordinate with HR and management on safety-related employee matters
- Coach foreman and supervisors through one-on-one engagement to improve hazard recognition, job planning, and safe work execution
- Establish credibility with field personnel through consistent site presence, practical guidance, and respect-driven leadership
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide safety manuals, programs, policies, and procedures, including full ownership of the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) in accordance with CCR 3203
- Serve as the primary point of contact for workplace incidents, injuries, and near-misses, including coordination of response, reporting, and follow-up
- Conduct monthly safety meetings and assist foreman with tailgate and toolbox talk topics
- Plan, coordinate, and conduct annual safety training programs to ensure regulatory compliance and continuous improvement
- Enhance, manage, and deliver new hire safety orientation programs, ensuring all onboarding documentation and training records meet regulatory requirements
- Track, schedule, and document all required safety training and certifications throughout the year, with clear expectations for training completion and refresher compliance
- Participate in pre-job walks, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and site-specific safety planning
- Perform regular job site audits, inspections, and field visits to ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including Cal/OSHA Title 8 CCR Requirements
- Identify hazards, evaluate safety performance, recommend corrective actions, and conduct follow-up assessments with emphasis on measurable incident reduction and risk mitigation
- Create, implement, and maintain workplace Health & Safety Plans and Emergency Action Plans; serve as the primary emergency contact
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and property damage events; prepare reports and recommend preventative measures
- Manage OSHA recordkeeping, including OSHA 300/300A logs, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory defensibility
- Inspect tools, equipment, and machinery to identify unsafe conditions and ensure proper use, including oversight of crane, rigging, and lifting activities where applicable
- Lead and conduct accident preventions and safety training programs, including heat illness prevention in accordance with CCR 3395 and confined space awareness
- Support project management teams by providing on-site safety guidance and compliance support
- Oversee driver safety and regulatory compliance, including DOT requirements and California BIT Program compliance, in coordination with the Fleet Manager
- Update and manage third-party compliance systems such as ISNetworld
- Collaborate with HR Team on workers’ compensation claims and return-to-work programs, and employee safety matters
- Promote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, coaching, leadership, balancing field leadership with administrative accountability
Miscellaneous Duties:
- Support operations and management with planning, forecasting, and workload coordination
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives related to project execution and client service
- Participate in internal meetings as required
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum of 3 – 5 years of safety management experience in operational field-based environments
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards, including Cal/OSHA Title 8 CCR
- Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations
- Demonstrated experience serving as a Safety Officer or Competent Person on active job sites
- Excellent communication, training, and organizational skills
- Ability to travel regularly to job sites and work in active field environments
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Safety management systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- OSHA 30-hour certification (Construction or General Industry)
- CHST, CSP, ASP, CHST, or other safety certifications from accredited bodies such as BCSP, NFPA, NSC, or OSHA Trainer credentials strongly preferred
- Experience with ISNetworld, Refinery requirements, Avetta, or similar compliance platforms
- Knowledge of environmental, confined space, heavy equipment, and high-risk work activities safety
- Demonstrated ability to lead safety programs within field-driven environments where credibility and site presence are essential
