The Senior Project Manager manages large, visible projects/programmes or a range of projects with tactical impact, lengthy project life cycles; this involves the selection and management of project resources, multiple negotiations at all levels and the need to network internally in order to achieve project objectives and ensure that business goals and strategies are met.
The Senior Project Manager will ensure projects are aligned to overall Qantas transformation program outcomes, and effectively engage stakeholders, partners and team members to ensure project objectives are achieved and roadblocks cleared. Relationships with internal and external key stakeholders are fundamental to successfully coordinating all aspects of the project(s) across the specific project streams, against key milestones, process complexity, critical dependencies and deliverables.
You’ll have:
- Extensive experience managing large‑scale, multi‑stream IT programs or portfolios, ideally across HR, payroll, workforce management or other enterprise platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multiple concurrent projects and workstreams with complex inter‑dependencies, tight milestones and high levels of organisational impact.
- Strong leadership capability, including experience mentoring and leading Project Managers and cross‑functional delivery teams.
- Strong track record delivering programs involving data migration, integrations, core system replacements, platform uplift and cut‑over to new technologies.
- Hands‑on experience overseeing end‑to‑end testing cycles including SIT, integration testing, regression, UAT support and cut‑over rehearsals.
- Experience defining scope, goals, deliverables, schedules and budgets for large enterprise programs.
- Ability to understand, challenge and influence solution architecture, high‑level design and technical design across multiple systems.
- Experience working with or around platforms such as ADP, payroll and award interpretation systems, Workday, Oracle, and other enterprise technology environments.
- Understanding of configuration, integrations, enhancements, analytics and data‑related technical components.
- Demonstrated capability managing complex stakeholder landscapes across business, IT, systems integrators, vendors and partner organisations.
- Experience leading vendor engagements, SOW development, commercial discussions, contract recommendations and performance management.
- Strong communication and influencing skills with senior leadership and operational teams.
- Experience contributing to or leading steering committees, governance forums and program decision‑making bodies.
- Strong risk, issue and dependency management discipline, especially in environments involving payroll accuracy, regulatory compliance and award interpretation.
- Ability to apply structured project management methodologies such as PRINCE2.
- Experience supporting major organisational change and technology adoption programs.
- Proven ability to operationalise technology solutions, including knowledge transfer, documentation, SLAs, support models and BAU handover.
- Understanding of operational service management and IT readiness requirements.
- Able to lead, influence and motivate cross‑functional teams, including individuals and vendors not directly reporting to them.
- High level of resilience, judgement and decision‑making in environments with evolving priorities and ambiguity.
- Proactive, self‑starter mindset with the ability to drive momentum and maintain delivery discipline.
