Passionate about aviation and mathematical optimization? Join OPSD and help build the Operations Decision Support Suite (OPSD) for the Lufthansa Group. Develop integrated rotation–passenger recovery solvers, collaborate with NOC experts, and turn advanced OR models into production tools.
- Formulate and implement integrated aircraft rotation–passenger recovery MILP models
- Develop and test decomposition approaches (e.g., Benders, Column Generation)
- Benchmark solution quality and runtime on realistic disruption scenarios
- Translate business needs into mathematical models
- Collaborate with NOC experts across Lufthansa Group airlines
- Support the transition of optimization prototypes into production-ready solvers
Requirements
We are looking for a highly motivated and analytical candidate with a strong foundation in Operations Research and a keen interest in airline operations. You enjoy tackling complex decision problems and translating theory into production-ready optimization solvers.
- Master’s student or recent graduate in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or related field
- Strong knowledge of mathematical optimization (MILP, decomposition methods)
- Excellent Python skills and experience with optimization solvers (e.g., Gurobi, CPLEX, HiGHS)
- Experience with Git; familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., GCP) is a plus
- Interest in software development, performance optimization, and clean code design
- Structured, analytical mindset and very good English skills
