Joby Flight Research designs, develops, and flight-tests novel aircraft using a software-first autonomy approach. We build and deploy autonomy, perception, planning, and radar systems across conventional, electric, and hydrogen-electric aircraft in both CTOL and VTOL configurations.
Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineering Technician to support the development and aircraft integration of our flight-critical R&D powertrain systems and components. This role is hands-on and focused on the assembly and testing of advanced electromechanical , pneumatic, hydraulic , mechanical and electrical systems and components , including electric motors, electric turbocompressors , valves, sensors, actuators, and wiring harnesses .

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineering teams on the design, build, and testing of complex powertrain systems and components .
- Assemble , integrate and troubleshoot hardware (systems and components) for test stands and aircraft while maintaining detailed documentation.
- Support the development of new assembly methods, tools, and processes for rapidly evolving designs.
- Ensure quality, safety, and traceability throughout all build processes.
- Provide feedback to design engineers on manufacturability and assembly improvements.
- Build from engineering drawings and CAD models for both new and updated designs.
- Partner with manufacturing and production teams to transition designs into production, including training and process documentation.
Required
- 5+ years of industry or directly relevant experience.
- Strong background in mechanical assembly and systems integration.
- Hands-on experience with low and high - voltage electrical systems and components .
- Proven ability to work in a high-paced, high-quality environment.
- Strong work ethic , problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
- Team -oriented mindset with excellent communication skills.
- Previous experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) or as an engineering technician.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to lift assemblies up to 50 lbs.
Desired
- A&P License or Equivalent (familiar with aircraft maintenance standards and work processes) .
- Skilled in writing and following work instructions.
- Familiarity with machining, welding, and general mechanical craftsmanship.
- Experience with instrumentation setup and data collection.
- Working knowledge of CAD and PLM/PDM systems.
- IPC J-Standard certification.
- Proficiency with Jira for project tracking.
Additional Information
Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is
$36-50. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
